I was absolutely devastated, upset, hurt, and angry!! How could this happen??? We always had open communication, I always answered all of her questions according to the age she was, I explained all of my challenges been a young and unmarried mother, and reminded her that she also suffered due to my choices and lock of maturity!! Hell, I went as far as to say " I know when you are ready to become sexually active, you are not going to come and ask for permission, I didn't !! But, when you are, here is an extra card to see your doctor, get yourself protected!" She had just hit a rough path with her grades and despite this, she still had a bright future ahead of her, she hardly knew the guy, and he seemed nice, and respectful, I didn't allow her to go to places, such as; parties and gatherings without at least talking to the adults that would be involved, I would ALWAYS be the parent who gave all the rides, dropping off and picking up! And, one summer, her and her boyfriend walked into my room holding hands, and there was something about their attitudes that told me, she was about to say it, and than, she sat next to me and said "Mom, I love you and I didn't do this to hurt you and dad, I swear, but; I'm pregnant!" I truly did not know what to say, I fell betrayed, and angry and worried, my daughter was a princess, beautiful, smart, with a bright future, and only 17!! I asked her to leave the room, cried myself to sleep, I spoke to her the next day, after a lot of crying and praying and told her that I was there for her, and that I would respect her decision whatever that was, have it or abort it! I told her that I would hold her hand every step of the way one way or another, (She is not the aborting type) but you never know, after all, I never thought she would get pregnant so early either, and here we were! She asked for help to talk to her dad and I said "no, I didn't tell you to do this, and you must tell him on your own" She did, and he was very upset and asked that I forced her to have an abortion, to which I off course said no, it is totally her decision. She had the baby and he is now 4 years old, she has proven herself to be an awesome mom, she will graduate as a teacher in May 2010!! She bakes cookies, and cupcakes from scratch, is gracious to her boyfriend's family, respectful of everyone's boundries and has absolutely shocked the hell out of me!! I adore him, and I am very happy that I am still young and energetic, and have all of the energy in the world to enjoy him, and be there for my daughter every step of the way!!!!
