Yeah. That method is for blogs that don't correctly put the tags in the RSS feed. It allows Technorati to identify which tags to apply. Unfortunately, it also drags traffic away from you.

But, you don't have to worry about that on WordPress.com. Just assign Categories to your entries when you write them. wp.com correctly inserts them as tags in the RSS feed for Technorati (and other blog search/aggregators) to pick up.

Don't bother with Technorati tags. Technorati is a waste of time, all they do is drive traffic away from your site and to Technorati.

It's very easy using Keotag . You simply enter the words you want to create as a keyword; if there is more than one word, you add a plus (+) symbol between them, for you it would be sanjay+dutt . You then click the little Technorati box, and that will generate the tag. After that you want to insert the line of text into the code part of the visual editor (click the Code tab). When you click back to Visual, it should display the tag.

This would be your code:

technorati tags: sanjay dutt

To be honest, though, not many people bother with them. Technorati is automatically pinged whenever you do a post; unless you just want to display them for appearances, they really don't serve much of a purpose.

I think i would have gone through most of the articles on the site for Tags but i have no idea what i am doing wrong or missing. I want to have tags at the bottom of every post i write..so i would need to input them while writing. I went to ,among other , Keotag. followed the instructions and got the following code

<div class="tags">technorati tags: sanjay dutt </div>

I took this code and pasted it on a blog..but the problem is that it shows exactly like above... and not as a single word... the words i tried out with were "sanjay" and "dutt" , but after saving the blog i dont get those 2 words i get the entire code showing on the site..

What am i doing wrong?

Why all the worry about this stuff, anyway? Is blogging only about stats? How about just having some fun?

Why worry, because I've had stalker problems on my previous blog and I need to know if they've tried to follow me, hence I need a meter that gives me the info I need.

I've just put statcounter on my blog via a text widget . The counter shows up fine on the blog - but so does part of the html code!!! Duh, am I just daft and missed something basic, or is there a problem with uploading html code from statcounter into a text widget? The instructions said to place the code between <html> <body> and </body> </html>. However, in a text widget no 'body' code is displayed. Please advise. Thanks

You're also not linking to your blog within your account. A link is worth a lot more that any meta tag. You may want to change that here in teh forums by editing your profile. Also on the blog side at Dashboard -> Users -> Your profile.

Or the search bar here in the forums I gather. :)

No search engine uses meta tags any more as they're too easy to fake. WordPress.com is set up for blogging, not SEO purposes.

If it's something you have got to have, I would suggest grabbing a copy of the wordpress software from http://wordpress.org and finding a host.

This thread is a sitemeter thread and you appear to have a question pertaining to statcounter. It doesn't seem to be a a wordpress issue. It would seem that if your statcounter is not doing something that it did do before the statcounter "help" or support at statcounter is where you could direct your question to. http://www.statcounter.com/

Well, on both of my blogs in which the "referrer" was working properly through statcounter is now dead - it's as if I'm somehow changed over to an HTML only counter - which I'm not. I have got the statcounter code in both a text widget as well as within a post, but no luck.

Anyone else see their referrer links gone?

Hi, as a new user I tried to add site meter in the blogroll and in a text widget followint the the new instruction but I cannot make it work. Tried to change the theme also (Kubrick and Benevolence) and also created a new account with site meter to no avail.
Is there another trick to make it work ?

F everyone's I, here's step-by-step directions to add Site Meter's counter to WordPress blogs:

F my I: As has been mentioned, Site Meter uses Javascript to track referrals, search engine keywords and some other stuff, and WordPress doesn't allow it. Has anyone found a stat counter that tracks that stuff without Javascript?

Hey drmike,

I figured out how to do the sitemeter thing afterall...

Had to create a text widget with the html coding, per your post on 7/19.

I just wish that I could add that icon under the "blog stats" widget instead of on it's own, but hey...it's working now. :-)

Ha! Thanks, drmike! The text thing now works. I was just frustrated with the sitemeter thing when I posted.

I still can't get sitemeter to work on my blog.

Do you know of other counters that can be used with wordpress?

Rambling, have you clicked on the little white box with lines on the right hand side of the text widget? That will open up the editing window.

Ok...what am I missing here? I tried to add sitemeter per the "add link in blog roll" instructions. No luck. All it does is show up as a url link and not the usual image icon.

And, what's with the add as a widget option? I am unable to edit anything when I try to create a new text widget. All I get is a new box that says "text 1" but I can't modify the text.

Argh...I haven't had trouble with sitemeter on other sites before.

I just added Site Meter to my site and it was very easy. Site Meter has instructions to allow placement in a WordPress Blog.

(I just saw yugyug's post above, but here are some more specific instructions).

I have succeeded in adding a "StatCounter" button on my blog, using the widget mechanism. You also have to remove the following section from the code that Stat Counter provides you:

Add a text box widget, and just put the remainder of the code that StatCounter provides you in there.
