Folks, I've got to say that I, too, was pretty distressed to discover ads appended to my post. I had written a very small entry about being a witness to 9/11, and the big, honkin', ugly ads were bigger than the post. Sure I know that free ain't free, but geez. I don't feel that the disclosure was well-made up front.

You might want to check out blogger/blogspot. It lets you blog completely ad free. They can do that because they have a sugar daddy, google, and they are able to attach themselves to the backend of the g00g and it doesn't even make a handful of pennies difference in Google's expenses. WordPress has no sugar daddy, they have to pay for all the expenses of running this service.

You agreed to the ToS in order to get a blog at WordPress.com. Like all the rest of the 25 million WordPress.com bloggers you have to accept the advertising on your blog or purchase a No-Ads upgrade, or move your blog content to another blogging platform.

I know that there is a compassionate person somewhere who can really explain what is going on in words and terms I can understand. All I wanted to do was start a free blog. Now I have ads being placed on them and being told I need to PAY for protection from them if I want to continue to have an advertisment free blog. Is there no real person I can speak to in order to get this matter resolved? I know every mule has two ends, one more pleasant and understanding than the other, so I am trying to reach that front end voice at present. Often black and white words do not convey feelings and can appear to be harsh and imperious and can be taken as argumentative and not clearly as helpful as they were meant to be. Sill looking...

@toodazed, log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and go to google, search for one of your post titles and then click on the link in Google. This is no guarantee you will see an ad since they do not server up ads every time. As the information on ads here states, they "occasionally" show ads. Regular visitors and commenter are unlikely to ever see ads on your site no matter whether they are logged in or logged out.

TOPIC AT HAND...unsolicited ads appearing on a blog... Well my goodness...there it was in full print in bold letters...how could I have been so naive? I was just looking around and was told there were all these free sites if you wanted to start a blog...now I guess I know that there is no such thing as a free lunch, even at the "Yawl Come Back Cafe" ... Words of caution to the little kids...someone is taking you on a snipehunt...but I am not here to "praise Caesar," just to comment on tackiness...whatever WordPress is, (your 24/7 support seems to lack that personal touch), your ethics and mine seem to be out of phase at moment, so as soon as I can round up my little dogies, I may just mosey on along to another "free" site...perhaps I will read all the fine print this time, including the very fine print...Are you sure you folks aren't in politics?

Folks at WordPress...please remove the arrogance regarding the advertisements. Your customers are trying to tell you that what you are doing is poaching on their abilities...and since I am a real newbie to this I dont buy your responses about paying to upgrade...seems like we called this blackmail in the old days...but then again some of us recall the "old days" when someone threatened you, then it was time to take our business elsewhere...doesnt matter where we take it but if they are honest and upfront I suspect you can assume the "nuclear position" some us were taught in grammar school...yep we are almost fossilized, but old mules can still kick.

::sigh:: well crud, it ate my " "s inside the code bits. and there's no EDIT comment option?

please ignore the examples above, since they are screwed up. please look at my blog, on the bottom of the left column, because that's where i store my new post code. (luckily, i haven't made a blank post template yet, for the new copy post feature. :X )

http://bloodsongtermagant.wordpress.com/

sorry about that.

the basic gist is, if you want more than one blank line in a row, you have to put a non-breaking space on them. and hitting spacebar doesn't work, if i recall correctly :X
