Feel free to step up. :)

None of those features are necessary for blogging. If they are required for you, you are free to grab a copy of the wordpress software from http://wordpress.org and find yourself a host.

You are also free to submit a feedback and suggest them. Staff has said that they keep track of what's being requested.

You may also want to read the thread that you post in as I do believe there are workaround listed up above.

I really have enjoyed reading these threads and found myself amused. I like raincoaster am confused. After much toil, I got the social buttom and social networking thing to work last night. Thank you for all those who helped me. I have noticed my feed readers have shot up exponentially. I do not know if what is being addressed above would enhance or discourage readers to come to my blog. As I asked in the social bookmarking/networking button thread, can someone distill what is being suggested above...because my head is swimming in sequencing. Thanks for being detailed and specific.

I was thinking how great it would be to have a generic "meta headers" editor window.

It would have these links as default:

	<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" href="http://engtech.wordpress.com/feed/" title="//engtech RSS 2.0 Feed" /><br />
	<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" href="http://engtech.wordpress.com/comments/feed/" title="//engtech Comments RSS 2.0 Feed" /><br />

But I could edit/replace them and also fill in other generic meta elements like validation for various web services to prove that you are the webmaster of a site.

Other than stripping javascript/meta redirect, not much work would need to be done.

Potential for abuse would be small, you'd see a couple of guys stuff meta description tags but that doesn't really harm anyone and search engines ignore it.

It would be an advanced editing panel for sure (probably under Extras). People could change their default feed to FeedBurner or whatever, you'd finally be able to access the Google Webmaster console for your blog that tells you about broken links etc. You could put in non-standard meta elements like your GPS position for geoblogging.

This would be very sweet.

Clarification

No, no, no...

Feedburner is NOT an RSS Reader...

Feedburner is simply a TOOL that bloggers can use to "clean up" and "fix up" and "pimp out" their RSS FEED.

It changes NOTHING for the subscriber... in the sense that it does NOT force the subscriber to use ANYTHING...

Here's an Idea!

I have an idea for a solution! This would NOT involve changing any themes... (Heaven Forbid!)

Why not make a change to WordPress's Dashboard System-Wide... Add a new field under OPTIONS.... Called, "RSS Feed". It would default to the normal WordPress RSS feed... BUT... the blogger could change it to whatever they wanted... (i.e. their Feedburner burned feed).

Then, the system would simply USE THIS FEED (the string value stored in that field) wherever the "RSS Feed" is displayed... in ALL of it's themes!

Since we are talking about changing a SYSTEM VARIABLE, I think this should be able to be done system-wide -- without actually changing any of the themes.

I get it now, and do see the usefulness, but I know that forcing users to a particular thing such as Feedburner will cost you some readership. I wouldn't take the chance, myself. A 30% dropoff is not uncommon when you do something like that, and I just wouldn't do anything to cause readership to go down, even momentarily.

Bruce, work with me: I'm slow. Why do you want to remove the brandless RSS feed to your blog and make it only the Feedburner version? My understanding (limited as it may be) of WordPress is that it allows Feedburner as well as any number of other RSS readers. Are you funnelling your readers to this to ramp your Feedburner hits? I'd think that would be counterproductive, given what I've seen of my own feed reader spreads. I'm intrigued: Why?
