millaq, by "design" I meant an architecture of the platform: Blogger's been designed by Pira from the grounds as a multi-user one (having in mind related implications), while WPMU simply grew out from a single-user.

as for fancy skins (frequently referred as "web-design"), search for "blogger template" will turn out a lot of them. admittedly, most of them ain't so spiffy and mind that "Millions Blogspot Users are too Lazy" or don't understand the basic HTML tags (as well as .com ones).

in fact, having presentation facilities (like template tags) separated from application logics, Blog*Spot delivers crafted 'graphic designer' with an ability to create virtually any 'pure art' template for their *hosted blog* or port to it a number of really distinctive free XHTML/CSS hand-coded, light website templates (like the ones from Solucija by Luka Cvrk).

By "embed" I meant embedded videos, flash, etc. There are a lot of platforms which are not supported here at WP.com, and we get complaints about them all the time. "My buddy invented a new kind of video, BorkTube, and why can't I use it here?" etc, etc. No iFrames, no Forms, none of that "operational, dynamic" stuff.

IMHO, forums at WP are a lot friendlier. And about "lame" design.... well, I'm a graphic designer myself. And I find that there's a lot you can do to improve (or add a bit of "style") to most themes, setting aside the css, of which I'm totally ignorant. On the other hand, I've neer seen an astonishing work of pure art on Blogger, but maybe I need to browse some more...

@ muse, wow, isn't that one a great pic? A very unique reason to sign here, but totally valid. In fact, I'm curious now of what made you guys decide to be here in the first place, maybe I open a new topic on that one. :)

@ sulz, good one! To me WP sounded very journalistic and smart.

@ cj, you're right, pages are a great feature. I'll ask you something, I've always wondered why blogspoters don't display their tags in the sidebar... is that they can't? When you visit one of their blogs, you are never able to know what the blogger blogs about or find the posts that interests you, you need to browse through all their date archives, which are very long sometimes.... I know they don't have categories at such (which is tragic), but can't they use their tags as indexes?

Has anybody actually seen Blogspot's forums?

I've had my blog with WordPress for a while and before that had one with Blogger. It's really the community WP has that I like more; everything seems more organised - Google, tagging, etc. The pages aspect is attractive as well; it just gives it added functionality (particularly for me as I needed somewhere for my fiction), and makes it more of a site than a traditional blog. It's true, you sacrifice some things, but I've gained a lot more than I've lost. I always recommend WP now when anyone asks.

You can also check the response time on help requests. Blogger is nowhere near as responsive as WP.com, and although I believe they do have forums, you won't find questions typically answered within the hour the way you do find here.

Advantages Blogger has include tinkering with the templates for free, javascript and embeds, and advertising/commercialization. For some people, those are dealbreakers, so for some people WP.com isn't an option.

@ sulz, thanks for the search idea... I usually search EVERYTHING, I don't know why I didn't think of it before! However, it is much more fun reading many different views from people I somehow know. :) How do I "adjust the title"? Or you don't mean it literally? I know they're not the same, (you guys keep doing "shoo-shoo" to people that drop by from WP.org all the time!)

@ rain and mymy, about the juice, I'm impressed. I didn't know that! And that's a BIG plus for most people.

@ macro, well, style IS important. I think that this Blogger-WP.com dichotomy is very much like the eternal fight between evil-good or pc-mac, no offense... lol.

@ abbydon, for me at least the community thing here is something very precious. It is what makes WP.com a living organization. It is really really really a wonderful plus point. And I'd add the support here, not only from you, but also from staff. So they don't have someting like forums and support in Blogger?

Thank you very much, guys for your thoughts. Anyone else?

With WordPress, not only do you get the Google juice, built-in tag system, and super ping, but you get the community! Simply commenting on other people's blogs tend to draw them over out of curiosity. I have at least half of those visitors leave comments. You also have more of a sense of closeness since you're all part of the community. Plus, this off-topic forum provides a way to "hang out" with other bloggers and keep up with new blog entries through the latest post thread.
