You would have a new theme. I've already forgotten which one you use, but it's likely available at .org or a similar one. Your text, links and blogroll can be exported. Widgets would have to be rebuilt and images transferred manually. There might be a limit but I doubt you're anywhere near it. I've read of huge export files here.

btw, those dogs are darn cute!

Earlier is better than later, you're absolutely right, and since your page rank is 0 and you've only got a few months of posts, you probably won't feel as much Google pain as a more established blogger.

It's a simple matter of hiring a host and using the export function in your dashboard to export your posts and import them into the new blog. The hosts featured at http://wordpress.org offer "1-click" setups, in that your WordPress software will be installed without any downloading or uploading on your part.

I imported posts from my other blog (which went fine) but there were about 200 posts in there and now they have the IDs of 1 - 200. My WordPress.com Blog that I imported into already had a few hundred posts...

I was using the IDs to count how many posts I'd made, but now this has been thrown off. Is there a way to manually (or easily) change the Post IDs? Or (even better) how do I get a "post count"?

Blogroll- you can export your blogroll links out at
`http://mydomain.tld/wp-links-opml.php’ (You must change “my domain.tld” to your own url, of course.)

Open that exported blogroll (links) xml file in a plain text editor like NotePad and save as a *.txt file. Be sure you are using a plain ext editor and then import the *.txt file you saved into your new blog at dashboard -> blogroll -> import Links.

Important Note: The blogroll (links) xml file needs to be saved as a *.txt doc in a plain text editor like Notepad. This is because if you were to save it as a text rich text document using for example Microsoft Wordpad or Word (horrors!) those programs would add in all kinds of garbage like fonts and unusual html formatting code that mess will it up for what you’re doing here.

I have a weblog hosted by wordpress.com. Now I am moving to my own domain and I want to export everything into my new wordpress weblog (hosted by myself). I exported/imported entries, comments and post categories. However the blogroll, links and link categories are not exported.

I have read about OPML files and also found some plugins in the net to allow me to export blogroll from a wordpress account, but they all require full control over the account. Can I do the same over my limited xxxx.wordpress.com weblog?
