I've seen this security issue mentioned before as the reason that normal everyday embed code for video can't be used on WordPress.com.

Frankly, I just don't get it. Blogger (which in my opinion is an inferior platform) places no such restriction. The normal embed code found with virtually every video can be placed in the html with no problem. If Blogger doesn't see a security risk (and it is a shared platform), why does WordPress?

Vodpod goes a long way to solving the problem but I've encountered videos that Vodpod won't capture, plus using Vodpod is an extra step when I could just as easily pull the embed code.

Is there any chance WordPress will change this policy sometime down the line?

No, what raincoaster was REALLY drawing their attention to was to link their username with the blog, so we can answer on an informed basis.

What raincoaster was drawing to your attention is that there are differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org software. The code you are posting is shockwave flash and that code will be stripped out by the software to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform. These codes cannot be used on wordpress.com blogs http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

I'm trying to embed a video from another site that's Flash and I can place the following code just fine in WordPress blog hosted by someone else but not here on WordPress.com. The code simply doesn't take no matter whether I place it in the Visual tab or HTML tab. Here's my code:
