The "this is the home..." widget space is under the "Homepage Top Right" in appearance > widgets. The text you see is just placeholder text. Add whatever widget you want to that particular "sidebar". If you want to put a text announcement in that area, add a text widget to it.

It would however not be a theme issue I don't think.

Perhaps copy the body of the post out (from the HTML editor) and then paste it into a new post (again in the HTML editor) and then publish that post. If it publishes then delete the other post.

Also, go to settings > general in your dashboard and make sure that your time zone is set correctly.

I am using the Structure theme and I can't seem to figure out how to edit the "this is the home page widget area." I cannot find that anywhere. Also, is the large space there for an image, like a header? I'm very confused.

Additionally, it keeps making one of my posts "scheduled" and not "published" no matter what I do.
