I think that is your best bet at this point - contacting support. Something is definitely wonky somewhere.

When I checked the blog just now, the two earlier PDFs were still not showing. the first do worked fine when i initially did them and up to a couple of days ago. I tried to redo the upload of the new PDF for the most recent post, but got the same error message about the file not being found as before. Other than these three files in question, there is only one other file I've uploaded and the whole lot of them aren't even 500kb collectively.

- Have taken the advice to Contact Support directly

In the first post, I get a 404 error for the "Judge Rose...pdf but in the second post, "Silence..." on the "Seawright v American" and "Corl v Thomas & King" I get the pdf's when I click on them.

If I were you, I would go into the post write page and in the "upload" section look to see how much of your 75mb space limit you have used. I doubt seriously that you have any PDF's that, individually, are over 8mb with what I see you posting, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Were the three I mentioned not working for you earlier or is it others that weren't working?

On the one in the first post, I would suggest going into manage uploads and deleting it and then upload it again after slightly modifying the file name (put a 1 after it or something) and then relink to that file and see what happens.

If there are other cases, then in the manage uploads section, find those pdf's and see if the show only a grey box in the browse area with a "0" file size. If they show a "0" file size then somehow they might have disappeared.

I would check all the occurrences you know of again this morning and see if they are back as it may have been some sort of server problem.

The other thing you can do is to contact support include the file names that seem to have disappeared along with your email address and blog URL and see if they can figure out what happened.

@teri
Could you post a link to a post with the PDF that will not display or load?

I suspect this is going to require staff intervention to rectify. Contact support Mon-Fri 9am-5pm Pacific time at: http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ , or using the "support" button in the upper right of your dashboard.

Please note that staff does monitor these forums, and there is a chance that one of them will work on it for you tonight.

Just for reference, I'll post the following:

When uploading files (not images) to wordpress.com here are some basics worth remembering:
(1) Be sure the file you wish to upload is one of these file types - pdf, doc, ppt.
(2) Do not use anything in the file name except letters and numbers; no spaces, no punctuation no dashes or underscores, or other special characters except for the dot between the file name and the extension. Also make sure the file name has an extension.
(3) The maximum size for a single file upload is around 8mb without the space upgrade. http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/how-big-a-file-can-i-upload/ . With the space upgrade, the maximum single file size you can upload is about 75mb. If you need more storage space, you can see the options in the "upgrades" page in your dashboard.

I am having this problem as well. Previously I successfully uploaded PDFs to a post. Checked them out on the site and they worked just fine. Now those links that I already did and which WERE working just fine the last time I checked won't work. I now get a message which says "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found." However, when i move my mouse across the link in the post, I can see the doc in the WordPress Snapshots.
In addition, I cannot seem to upload any other PDFs and they aren't showing up even in ths snapshots. Since i just started the blog last month, i can hardly be out of memory.

Same problem for me
Since yesterday, I cannot upload pdf files, which I currently do each week without any problem since may 2007
Files are around 50K and I currently use 2% of the 50M space.
In addition, thinking it could come from my computer, I tried from another one,and the problem still exist.
It's not a size problem, it's not a memory space problem, it"s not a file format problem and it's not a computer problem...
Did wordpress change it's software?

Thanks for any idea

@tt
In the links you provided, http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/how-big-a-file-can-i-upload/ it lists 75mb as the maximum file size for upload, but without the space upgrade, we are limited to 50mb total, so that wouldn't seem possible. The 75mb must be "with" the space upgrade.

In this FAQ http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/upload-space/ it says the maximum upload file size is around 8mb

We have not forgotten you. If this problem persists then I suggest that you use the blue "Support" button on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page and send all your details to staff requesting assistance. This is because only staff have backend access to blogs.
Best wishes for a happy ending. :)
