I have a work around if anyone is interested -

1. I opened another account and I sent an invitation to this new account.
a. Logout from your current account
b. Open a new account
c. Change the display name to whatever you like by going to "User" -> "Profile"
d. Log out from this account
e. Login to your fist account and send an invitation to the account that you just opened. Here are the instructions to send invitation http://support.wordpress.com/adding-users/

2. Now, open the post of the second blog, click on edit, scroll down to the bottom where you will see "Post Author"

3. Select the author that you want.

The advantage of this is that, now you can write posts using two different names without having to switch between accounts!
:)

Here's the reply that I got from support... in case someone else wants to try the same thing
---------------------------
Public display names are specific to accounts, not blogs. So - to have different display names, you would need to register another account and transfer one of those blogs to that new account. You could then modify the public display name in that account.
---------------------------

I think having a feature where public display names are specific to blogs would be useful, as I could have one blog for my business and the other, personal and have separate "public names" names for them, that way I don't have to keep logging in and out of the accounts. But I guess I must be the only one who would want such a feature, else such a feature would have been there! :)

Hi,
I have 2 blogs under the same account. For the first blog, I want the author to be "maherlewis" and for another blog, I want the author to be "maylewis". how do I do that.

Changing, the display public name affects both the blogs.

This is a lengthy and very detailed answer so please bookmark it. I found your blog here http://mrlnavy.wordpress.com/ - well done.

(1) Find technorati http://www.technorati.com on the web. Register and create an account, claim your blog(s), tag them, and register your favorite blogs. You will find that the site has excellent instructions to help you work through all the steps.

(2) Also be sure to register your blog so you get the attention of search engines. It is said that Google's directory comes straight from the DMOZ Directory so look into getting your blog site listed in it. The DMOZ has strict guidelines as to who is listed. Submission info can be made here http://www.dmoz.org/

"If your site has been accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, Google, Netscape Search, Yahoo Search, and hundreds of other sites. We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule."

You should *NOT* submit your site to Google, Yahoo, and MSN more than once every 30 days.

(a) Although Google says that manually submitting your pages to their index is unnecessary, they have an interface for you to do so. http:// www.google.com/addurl/ But don't be surprised if it takes weeks for Google to acknowledge your site's existence. Also register for a Google webmaster account http://tinyurl.com/5uhnzq

(b) MSN will seldom visit a website unless invited by submission. http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

(c) Yahoo frequents sites more than MSN but less than Google but will dramatically increase visits after submission. http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

(3) If you have assigned categories and tags to your post they will already be appearing on the wordpress.com tag pages in order of the date/timestamp http://en.wordpress.com/tag/political-issues/

(4) The best way to get comments is to visit other blogs that are on subjects directly related to the subjects that you blog about and leave meaningful comments. When you do this the bloggers may reciprocate by clicking your username which will be linked to your blog and arriving on your blog.

(5) Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard –> Users –> Your Profile. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ and fill in the address of your blog and then click ‘Update Profile‘.

Once you’re done click “Update Profile”. Voila! Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

Note that there is a complete record of every post that you make to the forum on your forum profile page. Also note that when you mark a forum threads as “favorites” that you will find them listed on the forum profile page too. And everyone in the forum can access your forum profile by simply clicking on “Member” next to your username.

Best wishes for happy blogging.

1. If you're not logged in we may count your own visits to your own blog.

2. There are a lot of search engines out there.

3. One is from your stats (referrers) and the other is from Google Blogsearch.

4. So the page doesn't take too long to load, but no good reason other than that.

5. Have you tried looking at Summary Tables? It's linked from "Blog Stats" box.

6. A visit is a pageview. Better stats are on our roadmap.

Pingbacks look that way because they grab the title of the page. No good reason other than that.

I'm sorry but we volunteers in the forums can't provide answers to your stats questions. You will need to contact staff. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

There are a bunch of things that don’t make sense about WordPress stats. Here they are. I’m sure I’m not getting it: maybe others can clarify.

In no special order:

1. WordPress says: “Just a note: we don’t count your own visits to your blog.” But they do, sometimes. Sometimes, I go back and edit an ancient post that nobody ever looks at. A couple of minutes later, there it appears on the list of visited posts. This doesn’t happen always, but it DOES happen occasionally. Why?

2. How can some people possibly reach my blog via some of the words allegedly used as search terms? Somebody got to my blog by putting “Germany” into Google?

3. “People clicked links from these pages to get to your blog.” In what way is that different from “Incoming links?” This is an obscure distinction and needs clarifying.

4. Why have a daily “Top Posts & Pages” list limited to 25? There is absolutely no reason why a complete list should not be offered each day. Some blogs get many visits to older posts.

5. It’s nice to look at the monthly stats to get a sense of how your blog has grown right from the day it was launched. But why limit that record to 16 months? That means that to get a full historical chart of your blog you have to do your own spreadsheet? (I know you get a rather clumsy-looking summary under “Summary Tables” that does go back to the start.) There’s plenty of space on the screen to offer more than 16 months, but even if there weren’t, why couldn’t WordPress offer limitless horizontal scrolling? (Is there some reason why horizontal scrolling is little utilized on the web? We’re all supposed to think of scrolling in vertical terms.)

6. Why don't we get a lot more information about who visitors are, where they are, and what is being measured and how? What counts as a visit? And one more point, not related to stats.

Why do pingbacks look like this?

Newer post « Blogname Says:

This is confusing and ugly. Why not just a heading that says: “The following posts on Blogname link to this post”. Followed by a list of the posts.

I have been trying to figure out how to add a space <p> </p> at the top of my image in the text widget, (with no title for the widget) for about 5 minutes...and found it here!

I have stopped wasting time trying to figure things out, the answer is always here.

Thank you so much for all your help "thesacredpath"!

Webmonkey has a list of basic html codes that I printed and often refer to, very useful.
