(1) Search string format
The use of quotation marks is not the correct format for a Google search this is >
site:effortlesslyintricate.wordpress.com/

Notice there is no space following the colon. Notice also that the http:// is not included in the search string. Note that no wordpress.com blogs have "www" in their URLs.

(2) google shows "no search results." Is that normal?
Yes. It's normal. It takes 4 - 6 weeks for your posts to be indexed and appear in search results. See the results on your blog here > http://ismyblogworking.com/effortlesslyintricate.com

(3) There are some factors that expedite the indexing process. See >
http://www.onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/21/omg-i-cant-find-my-blog-on-google/

(3) Apply basic SEO to your posts. Use but do not over-use keywords in titles, subtitles, and natural flow of the text, as well as, assigning relevant tags.

I just started blogging this week, and I realize of course that it takes a while for a search engine to "pick you up" I registered my site with google. No. You can't buy you way into having your site indexed. The purchase of a domain name changes nothing. You either are a skilled blogger who uses basic SEO elements, including the appropriate use of relevant tags or you aren't.

Also note this support documentation as some people just don't get it. When you purchase a domain mapping upgrade that's exactly what you get and nothing else.

The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes and plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and must still abide by our Terms of Service accordingly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

This thread has gone way off-topic. :(

External search engines "see" tags and categories as being the same thing. Categories are like the Chapter titles on a Table of Contents of a book. Tags are like the index terms that are found in the back pages of a book. Both are based on keywords or keyword phrases that naturally occur in any written language. Potential readers type keywords categories/ tags into search engines in order to find blogs and posts of interest to them.

Whenever you get confused about categories and tags pretend you are in a library looking for a book on a specific topic. Ask yourself this: What words would I use to find the correct book on that topic in that library catalog?

Change the word "book" to blog and you will know how to find a blog on any specific topic by typing keywords into a search engine and getting back the results.

When you assign a minimal number of categories and tags to a post you are selecting the keywords that you think other people would type into a search engine and find your blog with. They are important index terms used for retrieval of search engine indexing information. Choose them carefully and do not overuse them.
