I created a much wider image, thinking that might have been the problem.

It wasn't.

The header wants an image 960 x 250 pixels - and will scale whatever you insist on to be no wider than the main column - still leaving the white space to its right (in the sidebar column). I think all I did was end up with a skinnier picture.

Just checked it out on Safari (I'm on a Macbook 1,1) and it looks exactly the same. :-(

That could have explained it.

I don't have other browsers, but I've also seen it exactly the same on my iPad.

Thank you so much for answering.

I just looked. I use Firefox - the header (just the part with the menu) goes all the way across.

But my image only tops the left-hand column. Next to the image, there is nothing topping the sidebar column.

The menu goes across the two columns, but the image does not.

The Search widget is at the same height as my blog post title; above Search, and next to the image which tops the left column, is a blank space.

I tried pasting a screen image here, but this text box wouldn't accept it.

How do I put a picture here for you to see?

I appreciate your help! Just don't know how to make myself clearer.

It looks like you got this fixed, as I see the header all the way across, and then the search widget right below. If not, what might be happening is you're looking at it from a different browser, and themes DO look different on different browsers. I'm on Firefox.

On the sample page for this theme, the spot at the top of the sidebar is NOT blank.

Thanks. I HAVE checked the widgets page - and there doesn't seem to be a way to access the space, but the sample shows the space being used. I can't understand why MY widgets start so low on the column.

I'm using the 2012 theme, two column format. My blog posts are my front page.

There is a large blank spot at the top of the right-hand column (the sidebar). My header image doesn't go all the way across. (Is that the problem? Just that the image needs to be wider?)

I want to put an image, or possibly a widget, in this space - it is prime real estate.

Thank you.

I created a static home page for my blog (theme 2012) and see that there are supposed to be customizable widgets for the home page that can be different from the blog pages. I have made changes in my widget area, but nothing is viewing differently on the front end. Help!
