We can enter any RSS feed URL to any blog hosted anywhere into our WordPress.com Reader. Our WordPress.com followers with WordPress.com accounts can do the same.

Ok. Thanks! It's good that I got a clear answer, even it's negative. I don't use my blog that much as years ago when I was still a student, so I won't buy a space and set up a self-hosted blog there. It's a pity that I can't change the structure of the permalink, but I think I'll just take it and change the link by hand myself.

Thanks again!

I'm sorry, it's not possible to change the structure of the permalink on WordPress.com.

There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

Thanks for the help, but sorry it's not what I mean.

I know the individual permalinks of articles could be changed, but I've imported more than 200 articles from my old blog, and all the permalinks were set as default. It's too tiring to change the permalink one by one, so what I was asking is is it possible to reset the permalink by using CSS and to make it like "%year%/%month%/%day%/%postid%".

Anyone can help on it? I've been trapped in it for months. A million thanks, really!

I'm using a free blog on wordpress.com. The default setting of the permalink of articles is just adding the title of the article to the link, which make it not only quite long, but also quite hard to use (I write in Chinese in most of my articles, so the titles are in Chinese, too, and the Chinese in the permalink would be terrible long strange symbols if you copy and paste).

WordPress is a good and friendly system, so I decide to keep my blog here, but the hardship on the permalink is a nightmare to me. I've tried hard to find solutions, but I still can't get any satisfying answers. I need to know whether it's possible to set the permalink by using CSS if I'm writing on my blog on wordpress.com for free, or I have to spend some money to upgrade to do it.

Please share with me the solutions if there is. Thanks!

You add some better ideas to extend this concept then...If you added the same shortlink to the main blog site it could have a dual purpose to extend its useability further, the wp short code should have the ability as an extension to the site page! ie http://blogsitename.wordpress.com/wp.abcde. as well as being able to be used entirely on its own. Remember of course that the general concept I started with was a more permanent way to 'link' to a page or item. In the concept of its use in conjunction with the '[archives]' short code on a page, having a list of all the titles with the underlying URL being the short link is much more efficient. Bear in mind that you can change the title header of your post at any time but it does not change the long winded 'permalink which may not even resemble the title anymore (just to confuse everything). If you do change the permalink, anyone who book-marked it is screwed. It only takes one!

I like the idea of the short code [archives] as I use this on a basic index page list of my posts. It shows the title of each post but the underlying link to the post is the 'permalink' which is a useless feature throughout anywhere on a blog. What would be better is to consistently use the WordPress 'shortlink' i.e. http://wp.me/P28nLD-1Bi.

This shortlink is the 'true' permalink that refers to the actual page, post, attachment, image, etc that should never change. The 'permalink' is way to long to refer to or send in an email and I find that sometimes I need to change the title of one of my posts which meant that if a reader has bookmarked it, it is then redundant. The shortlink is the best solution to use everywhere. In the interim, can the shortcode tag '[archives]' be changed so the page of all the posts displays the title with the underlying URL being the wordpress short link or include a switch to the short code so it does, that way it doesn't upset the applecart for existing blogs where the default URL is the useless 'permalink'.
