You also need to enter the CSS example from above into the editor in the Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel and it would let you preview any CSS changes. Did you do that?

hi designsimply and I am sorry for such a late response. I tried your recommendation to "try now" through the custom design and clicked on CSS, it would not allow me to do anything different than what I can already do. the tabs are ok where they are I just thought the "static page" aka my home page would look better with them under the banner, if you have any more recommendations please let me know.

Speaking of the banner, if you don't mind giving some advice, how can I keep the banner on the "static page" aka my home page and eliminate it from all the rest of my pages which I am using as tabs. for example if you hit the "Am I an Addict" tab the screen slightly moves bc it is going to a different location but it doesn't look like it actually moved bc the banner is on all the pages, you would have to scroll down the page to see if you have actually navigated away to a different page. how can I eliminate the banner on all pages except my static page/home page?

George

I'm having this exact same issue. I think the problem is if you download the theme through the WordPress dashboard, it seems to be a different version. (I've actually found a couple of different versions floating around.)

The version that you install from the dashboard does not have the option for "Featured Content" in the "Reading" menu.

Is there any way to link the version of the theme you are using, Timethief? I can't seem to find a place on the wordpress site to dowload a zip of you version of theme without installing it on a .wordpress blog, which is not what I want to do. I'm trying to upload the theme on an existing URL.

Thanks for your help!

You can use absolute positioning to make a change like this. Note that it will depend on the height of your header always being the same (which it should). Here is an example you can start with, try adding this to your Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel and adjust the values to move the menu around on the page:

#header {
	position: relative;
}
#main-nav {
	position: absolute;
	bottom: -480px;
}

Featured Content Slider
Special posts deserve a special place. With Academica, every post assigned with a certain tag and given a featured image will be displayed in the Featured Content Slider on the home page of your site. To enable the slider:

Navigate to Settings → Reading.

Scroll down to the section labeled “Featured Content”.

Enter the name of a tag.

Click the blue “Save Changes” button at the bottom.

Once you’ve saved your changes, posts marked with this tag will appear in the featured content slider if they have a featured image. The suggested size for featured images is 960 pixels wide and 300 pixels high.

NOTE: Setting a Featured Image
Open the editor of the post or page where you want to display a unique custom header image, and locate the Featured Image module in the bottom right corner under Page Attributes. Click Choose a Featured Image. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image

I have searched the CSS forums and have found several lines of code to remove the default Search function in the header. None work. I have the upgrade to be able to do custom CSS. However, none of the descriptions of how to turn on your custom CSS seem to match what is in the Custom CSS in Customize CSS flyout. I get a window of "Welcome to Custom CSS>\!", a Content Width, a Start Fresh check box (don't use the theme's original CSS, an On Mobile Check Box and a Preprocessor dropdown allowing me to choose None, LESS, or SASS.
There is no "Add to Existing CSS" selection, nor is there a Preview as described in the forums. I presume WordPress has changed the interface to a Live Preview. I have tried several variations from the forums and nothing seems to effect the style.

I have saved the CSS with a number of variations and no joy.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

I can't move widgets, but I was able to do this previously. I tried to move about.me to a different location (and change settings for it - again and again!), but it didn't work. I deleted my history and cleared my cache to try to solve the problem. I had moved about.me to the footer at this point and when I refreshed the page, the bio was gone entirely. Now I'm trying to get it back by placing about.me where it had been (side right) but it's still not appearing on the pages (cleared cache again, but no luck). Can anyone help? All along I've been using Google Chrome and I haven't changed my browser settings.
Thanks.
All best,
Elizabeth
