There are some hosting recommendations at the wordpress.ORG site, and also some good introductory information on "getting started."

http://wordpress.org/hosting/
http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Most hosts will have either simple scripts or Fantastico which will do the wordpress installation for you and all you need to do is answer a few questions (make sure and record and save all the database info and usernames and passwords that it gives during the installation).

When you self-host, you will need to do all your own installations, upgrades, backups and troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to be able to figure it out and fix it. WordPress has made upgrades of both the core wordpress and plugins quite easy, but things can sometimes still go awry and in some instances updates may have to be done manually.

You will need to be familiar with how to use an FTP client in case an automatic upgrade goes wrong and you have to do it manually, and things do go wrong from time to time. That is life on the web.

5-6k views per day is pretty good. As far as how much money you can make from advertising is concerned, that all depends on how likely your audience is to click on ads. Most bloggers typically will not cover their yearly hosting costs, or perhaps just cover them with a bit left over for a designer coffee or two. Then again, some do quite well. It's kind of a toss of the dice.

Hey Everyone,

Let me start by letting you all know that I don't know the first thing about servers, hosting or even migration...
If you decide you'd like to reply and try to help me out, please do so by using terminology that I might understand.

Here's a brief summary. My blog averages 5-6k views per day. I'm interested in learning about the advantages of a .org account because of the potential of ad revenue through affiliate programs such as Ad Sense. If this is practical with numbers such as the ones just mentioned, I'd like to try it.

Now my problem, again, is that I'm not too savvy with all this stuff. Where should I start? Ideally, I'd like to do this on my own because I don't feel like paying someone to migrate the website for $100+ per hour. Also, any hosting companies anyone could recommend would be highly appreciated. Anything helps. Let me know your thoughts on this situation please.

Thank you,

I beg to differ. This is from WordPress.COM : "•We have a feature called Ad Control that lets WordPress.com bloggers with a lot of traffic (generally 25,000 pageviews/month or more) and appropriate content turn on AdSense and Skimlinks for their blog and split the resulting revenues 50/50 with us."

But nevermind, I found my answers elsewhere. Via GOOGLE, of course, not WordPress support. Thanks anyway!
