I recently purchased custom domain upgrade. To be able to use Google Webmaster tools I had to verify the new domain. Doing that, of course, cost me access to old domain.

I would like to be able to see my old data on Google Webmaster Tools for the wordpress.com domain I had. Is there a workaround for this?

Change of address tool only works for top level domains, which I guess wasn't the case since I was a subdomain under wordpress.

Thank you

It can take several weeks for search engines to start indexing new blogs and sites. Just be patient. Also make sure that you've got your privacy settings, set to the the correct option. Dashboard - Settings - Reading, then on that page, by 'Site Visibility' select "Allow search engines to index this site" then scroll down and click the 'Save Changes' button.

It might also be a matter of the material already having been published... search engines, particularly Google, don't like duplicate content. Another volunteer here might be able to help you more with that.

I had an old blog called Mel's Kvell and Kvetch and decided to rename it to fit the content that I was posting. I was nervous to lose my old posts and subscribers so I kept the old blog name alive. To be honest, even if I delete the old blog address/name, I'd still have the same problem. Basically, Google isn't indexing my new blog.

My question is that nothing turns up in Google or search engines with my new blog. The only results I get now are for the old blog, which looks really bad since the old/original blog no longer has any content.

I should mention that I did an address change, not just a title change. It's been a few weeks now so I'm not sure if timing is the answer.

In a nutshell, I'm wondering how to get people to find my renamed blog on the Internet.

Thanks!

Thanks! I did the one at "personal settings" just fine. I clicked on the link in my e-mail and this link brought me to a confirmation. But I am still having trouble with the first change of address I tried on settings/general. I use Google Chrome. The link redirects to the "settings" page. I also tried the same link with Firefox and it redirected me to the same screen. I tried changing my address to a different address I have, with intent of changing again, but each time I changed, the link I was sent redirected to that same screen. I'm going to restart my computer and then try the link with IE and see what happens.

Hi,

I am not sure if this is a glitch. I tried to change my contact e-mail address. It's not really a big deal because my old addy forwards to my new one, but I thought I'd deal with this as I am switching over. I was sent a link to click on to verify my new address. I clicked on the link. The link brought me to the General Settings page where I originally changed my e-mail address. I saw my new address there with the statement that it was pending verification. All I could do was to click on Save, so I did. Now what? It does not seem to be "verified." I have not been sent any further links. Is this a glitch? I am the admin and sole user.

Yes you can purchase a domain of your own by purchasing a domain mapping upgrade. In that case it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain URL is.

I understand that to avoid identity theft or deception deleted blogs' addresses are unavailable for other blogs. I am relatively new to wordpress and when I wanted to change my blog's address I mistakenly created a new blog with this address. But now of course this address is unavailable. Is there anything wordpress can do in this particular case.

I’m sorry, but we do not reuse or reassign blog names on WordPress.com.

If you like, you can attempt to contact the owner of that blog and ask them if they would like to transfer it to you. You can do this by either leaving them a message using a contact form if it exists, or leaving a comment on an existing page or post requesting they contact you.

If you are able to reach the blog owner and they are willing to transfer the blog to you, here are the instructions they can use to do that.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

If they do not respond or refuse the transfer, you will need to select a different name for your WordPress.com blog.

Keep in mind we also offer an upgrade for custom domain names and you can use any WordPress.com blog URL underneath a custom domain. For more details about how domain mapping works:
