Right now, the defaults are fine. At least what the wordpress software has done is terrific with me. I couldn't improve it even if I knew how. Not if s/he is using the "default widgets", i.e. has no widgets added to the widget area. In this case all the desired widgets need to be added.

What I posted above also applies to you if you have not previously set up widgets in the blog ie. have not altered the default display.

The new theme will have a sidebar display that does not contain actual widgets. All we do is go here > Appearance > Widgets and drag install the widgets we want from the Inactive Widgets box.

In fact, electronics stop working in my presence. Cash registers lock up when I get close, even the tv's shut off when I walk down the electronics aisle at Best Buy.
I know not to get in a tussle with a widget...
But I can answer questions about carpentry and woodworking.
I thought I saw a button to say the issue was resolved, but now can't find it. But, except for my continued ignorance, this issue is resolved. Thanks!
PS would have been back sooner, but my computer kept crashing.

The Meta Widget is a simple tool that makes it easy to log in and out of your blog and access your dashboard and RSS feeds from your sidebar. Anyone clicking that link will be presented with a log-in and as they do not know your log-in information they cannot log into your blog and access your dashboard.

I always remove the "meta" widget (using dashboard->Appearance->Widgets) because I think it looks silly to have a login showing on your blog for everyone.

What you see are "Admin" links and that "edit" link can only be seen by you and Admin when you are logged into WordPress.com. WordPress.com uses cookies to keep track of us and no one else will be able to view those details. Log out of WordPress.com and clear your browser cache and cookies. Then without logging in again visit your site and you will not be able to see or use the "edit" link.

Would like full access that is limited to the blog itself, and not my dashboard, and would like to regain "privacy." Can anyone help?

The edit links that appear on the blog are Admin links. They cannot be seen or used by anyone other than you. When you log out and clear your browser they disappear.

Google may not have indexed your blog yet for searching, as it is new. If you put the address in the URL field of your browser, it will take you to it.

There is a difference between searching for a web site (needs to be indexed by the search engines before it can be found) and typing in the address in the place URLs are typed.
