1) I have a free blog! But planning to change it to .com
2) Well I can do a website using CSS but I haven't got an idea hot to make it transparent in between the posts.

Dear timethief,

My current theme is Connections by Patricia Müller
I have changed the background. I have a photo-collage and I was hoping that if I make the main column transparent in between the post then my background will not be just visible on the sides but under each post.

I have started to set the post stamps in advance when I have a burst of topics to write about. Each time they have worked as expected.

If you can document the particular circumstances of the post that did not work, then it may be better to send specifics to support.

AFAIK, there is no limit to the number of posts that you can publish in advance, but sometimes you can trip up by not remembering that the set time may not be your local time.

Depending on the frequency of your articles, I would set them all to some future date/time and monitor. If they work they work, if they don't, try to record accurately what you did so that support can reproduce the problem or track it down.

Hmmm. I was not aware of the commercial purposes restriction. Even if it is not for my benefit, but a place where someone can go to buy something? That's the same? The for sale ones are just "favors" for friends, and the links to commercial websites, that's a real grey area isn't it? How is it different, than for example, MidTown Lunch that has hundreds of links/locations of restaurants to BUY lunch? But I don't want to break any rules.

As to your comment about how would someone find something on particular topic, like navicular, I thought titling the post would do the trick. Every post has the name of the problem in it, pretty much. I suppose eventually if I have enough of each type of condition I could make that a category. Thank you, that gives me something to think about. But, that is a different issue than posting articles on pages vs. posting them as posts, isn't it?

@christine
Re: the PS - no I don't think so. I believe you will have to copy and paste all of the information from the comments.

Re: the other part of your post. Your blog is your own to do with as you wish. If it were mine I would post the articles in posts and not on pages. I would use blockquotes and clearly stated "by" lines, and I would assign the articles to specific topical categories for easy reader retrieval.

This is what you have:
#
Categories

    * Case Studies
* Conditions & Treatment
* For Sale
* Recommendations
* Schedule
* Uncategorized

As an equestrian and horse owner what would happen if I looked for "navicular" or laminitis" in your categories list? Would I be forced to read through all the posts under Conditions and Treatments to finally locate what I was looking for?
I clicked on hoof boots more than once yesterday and I noted some images were linked to commercial sites selling hoof boots. I noticed other images with company logos. I also noticed that you had links that folks could use to get to sites that sell hoof boots.
And I also noticed your were listing horses for sale as a category and had such a post. This is an uncomfortable area for sure. WordPress.com blogs cannot be used for commercial purposes. So from here on I'm going to wish you well and leave you in our Moderator drmike's hands.
All my best :)

Hmmmm. Interesting that you would say that. I have 16 posts so far on my home page, 1 on Articles, with 3 subpages, one 'post' each, and 1 other (Studies) which will get subpages if I ever find any more studies. Oh yeah there's a Hoof Boots page too which I forgot about which was mainly created by reader contributions/comments.

The rationale I am using is that the "blog", the homepage entries, are content created by me. The "Pages" (articles and studies) are just copies of articles written by other people, and are like "reference" material.

Isn't this what you are describing? The articles are long so it may seem that I am dumping lots of stuff on pages but it's only 4 entries, to date. The length of the articles is exactly the reason i was looking to split it up into subpages.

The issue with search engines is interesting. I have specifically noticed that I am getting hits from searches that people are running that directs them to the CONTENT that is buried deep, deep in the article (and I wasn't even aware that content was there till that happened) of the pages but not the titles, so somehow the search engines are finding them. In particular the Hoof Boots page gets a lot of hits that way.

It seems to be working. Am I doing something wrong?

PS - the edit/copy/paste of comments, that's just how I redid my pages. If I do that with comments will the commenter's name, avatar, and so forth go with?

G'morning christine
You can manage, edit, move and delete comments *carefully* by going to -> Dashboard -> Manage -> Comments. Under each comment you will see " [ Edit | Delete | Unapprove | Approve | Spam | View Post ]"
There is no method of automatically moving comments. It's basically a copy and paste job :) going back and forth and using the comment boxes on the new sub-pages to enter the comments then editing them from the Dashboard/Manage/Comments area.
The difference between pages, subpages and posts is that posts have time and date stamps and more importantly they have category tags assigned to them (a method for reader retrieval, while subpages and pages don't. The method you are using of loading everything onto pages rather than posts is contrary to how a blog is normally set up. You may think it facilitates reader use now but IMO over the long term this may not prove to be true.
Best wishes :)

Yes, the problem has mystseriously solved itself. This has happened before, problems just clearing up by themselves. I did wait a while before posting the question. Why do these things happen, anyway? I don't want to be come known as the blogger who cried wolf and then get no support.

So, what about sub-pages below pages, is something like that possible? Or another way to say it I guess would be individual titled posts on separate pages?

Thanks.
