There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds http://www.wordads.co/ no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. There is no upgrade, aside from a VIP hosting upgrade http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/ that you can purchase that allows blogger initiated advertising on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. You will have to hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.org install to run your own advertising.

Advertising outside of WordAds at WordPress.com is not allowed.

There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

Is your No Ads upgrade still up to date? Very often we see reports of underlinked words that link to porn, etc, and that's because somebody's browser is infected with malware. They need to disable whatever extension is putting those ads on the pages they see.

I understand that you are not currently allowed to host paid advertising on your wordpress.com page. However, I was wondering if you were allowed to post images that link to particular websites that are NON PAID. For example, an image that links to a particular company that I like or a friend's company?

No you cannot run your own advertising and there is no upgrade aside from a VIP hosting upgrade that you can purchase that allows it on a free hosted WordPress.com blog.

What types of ads are you seeing and where are they placed? Are you seeing them while logged in?

You may have a contaminated browser extension, add-on or toolbar. Try disabling any and all you have installed, especially unfamiliar ones.

Not since the blog is hosted here. The Domain Mapping upgrade gets you just that: a new address for your blog. Since it's still hosted here, it is still under the same terms of service agreement and restrictions.

Yes, the same rules (terms of service) still apply. A domain name does not change where you are hosted; if you are hosted on wordpress.com then the terms of service still apply.

Conclusion: sponsored posts / advertising means you would need to go to wordpress.org and find a host.

I have a wordpress hosted blog. I stress it is hosted by WordPress and I bought the URL from WordPress.

Do the rules about no sponsored posts and advertising still apply if your site is hosted, as opposed to being a fully-fledged WordPress blog?

I only ask because I am keen to start taking paid-for advertising.

You are new here and I am not. We Volunteers have spent over 6 years telling others that they cannot sell any product they did not make or any service they do not provide that's not allowed here.

Justifying WordPress.com policies is not the role of a Volunteer answering support questions.

WordPress.com blogs are not suitable for marketing purposes as they cannot be equipped for ecommerce.

If Staff is making a policy change then I expect they will put it in writing and place it in the support documentation so we can link to it.

A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film.
