Indeed you are right. I wish I could remove my pissy response. :-(. I spent two hours following the recommendations and the only thing that worked was using a blocker suggested on the blog. On a good note , it got rid of the nasty ads on yahoo. :-)

The solution seems to be that you may find it best to look at your blog using a different browser. Firefox doesn
t seem to do annoying things like that, though I
ll admit I`m not an expert, nor a staff member.

I know that you are upset that all is not as you would like, but it seems that you accidentally typed a response or two that came out a little irritated. I know that this was, of course, unintentional, but perhaps you should be more cautious the next time you write so that those who are trying to help you feel inclined to continue doing so.

Indeed and "ad not by this site" means they are not placed there by WordPress.com.

Let's see. Because I have not used this computer for a week, I never download games or other addons, and both the ads and the hyperlinks appeared just today. Therefore, I assumed they were linked.

The ads on the top of the page have never appeared on my pages nor my dashboard before. Why now? That's what I want to know. I read the information when I signed up--I don't appreciate your assumption that I am foolish or cannot read. :-(. It is just that they are new, annoying, and both ce on the same day.

Thanks for the link, although it does imply ignorance on my part. I am trying the clearing of cache etc. it did not work.

Do you have some useful suggestions?

FYI: the ad at the top of the page indicates "ad not by this site'. So of course I would like solutions, not admonitions.

Why do you assume they are bring placed by WordPress.com? In fact WordPress.com does not use text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments.

Hi Timethief. I did see the ads displayed again and noticed a "?" mark next to the words "ads not displayed by this site". I clicked on the "?" and it was malware, something called "Coupon Connection" which I was unaware I had installed as it was packaged with some other software I downloaded. I have since uninstalled it from my computer. I am very sorry.

Thank you so much for your prompt assistance.

So I noticed in my stats that one the links people clicked on didn't match anything I had posted; it is directed to jeetyetmedia (dot) com (slash) eil.php -- or something close to that. I didn't click on the listing my stats, but I googled it and what little comes up seems to associate it with adware or malware. The problem is, I can't figure out where on my blog the link is so that I can remove it! I already went back through all of my comments that were approved and there is nothing there, nor did I find it on my link library page. My sidebar looks clean, and my last few posts as well. Any help getting rid of this?

That's a spam referrer. Response from staff:

Thanks for reporting this - we are aware of this problem and are working hard to find a solution to fix it.

Some background: what you're experiencing is called "Referrer Spam", and it's an unfortunate side effect of the way statistics tracking works. Spammers take advantage of the referrer logs and visit your blog from phantom URLs that they are actually trying to promote, in the hope that you see them in your logs and click them.

In the meantime, you can rest assured that there is no security risk here, to you or to you blog. It's just an annoyance, but one we will hopefully be able to get rid of very soon.
http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/tons-of-hits-from-spam-domain?replies=29#post-548475

These spam referrers do not in any way affect your blog's Google page ranking.

1. Do not click the links.
2. Do not post the URL or names of the site into forum threads.
3. Report all spam referrals to Staff directly .

In the last few days I have noticed a big jump in the number of views of my blog - usually for the last article. This number of views is matched by a 'referrer' entry, and when I click on the referrer, it goes to 'adf.ly' - which looks like some advertising bot of some sort.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here - I'd prefer to have a realistic idea of views, not pumped up by adware.
Chris
