Hi, I'm trying to update a category, but whenever I try to do so, "Category not updated" appears. What's happening? Thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to make a parent category, and it's not showing up on my sidebar. The subcategories are just listing as regular categories on the side.
The parent category is Paintings, and I'd like Recent Paintings, and Paintings 2007 to be the subs.

sorry to jump on the band waggon, but I appear to have the same problems. Just tried deleting most of my categories and re-creating them, but I can't even do that, have managed to create one or two new categories, but the older ones are still visible on my blog, whilst not being listed in the categories management window, so I can't do anything about them?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a problem with categories. I fouled up somehow and now I have a double of 'uncategorized' and I can't get rid of the duplicate. I've tried everything, even deleting all my categories. It makes my blog look messy. http://ratinacage.wordpress.com

You have to write posts and assign them to the categories before they will show up in the category widget.

I'm a newbie. Nothing I list or add as a "category" is showing up on my blog. I see I'm not alone is this. What to do? Is this a long term inexplicable problem? I'm at coffeespew.wordpress.com.

I just had the same thing happen. Tried to delete a post using Firefox and got AJAX is teh b0rked. Nothing odd about the post (it had a link in it, but I don't consider this odd). Cleared my browser cache; no difference.

Tried using IE, same AJAX is teh b0rked. But then I edited the post in IE, removed the link (which probably doesn't mean anything; I think if I had made any edit, I probably would have gotten the same result), and then clicked Save. The post no longer showed up.

Odd...

I don't see the deleted post in your recent posts widget. Try clearing your browser cache.

PS: the original title of the post was "Can Truth Conditional Semantics Explain Linguistic Competence?" which is currently appearing in the widget.

I have the same problem; I saved (but did not publish) an empty post with just a title. Now I cant delete it and it keeps appearing in my "recent post" widget either with the weird title "0", or with the title that I originally saved. If I try to edit the post from the manage page, it tells me that I am trying to edit a post that doesnt exist. Trying to delete it I get the "AJAX is teh b0rked" thing.

Duh. I always forget about Konqueror.

Fedora 7 here but my other partition has Ubuntu 7.10 and I'm about to ditch it all together. The Debian based CLI feels too quirky after RH based (and I like yum better than apt-get). And Gnome feels too dumbed down.

And then there's the Vista partition... Haven't touched it in weeks and I'm happier for it.

I can't bear to part with my cache and cookies, so I'll try it with Konqueror.

It's Kubuntu 7.04. I prefer KDE because it's better in superiority than GNOME. Haven't tried XFCE yet, though.

First try clearing your cache and cookies. If that doesn't work maybe try Firefox?

It means that there is a problem with the AJAX javascript being used by wordpress.com and that the staff are aware of it and that they are working to "fix" it.

I have the same thing here. The comment has been posted by a regualr visitor to my site. But when I try to moderate the comment a box appears on the moderation page withg the text "AJAX is teh b0rked."

Anyone know what is going on ?

I can't seem to delete, approve or sent this comment to spam... it's so weird. Every time i try to do so I get this message:

3 hours of work fixed MOST of the problem, but some of the DATED posts are still out of order within their parent categories. At least they are dated....

Yep, I've got subcategory problems myself; they aren't lined up under the parent category like I thought they would be. I've heard this can be corrected manually, but darned if I know how.

My categories went bye-bye a couple weeks ago, but I didn't think it would be PERMANENT! But I see now it is. I desperately need a fix! My local news is mixed up with my national news and my humor and fiction is mixed up with serious reality. It is nearly impossible to find the right category to put the right post under! If I have to redo the organization of an entire years worth of articles, I'll be at it until NEXT year! HELP!!! http://calhoununderground.wordpress.com

I have some weirdness on my blog http://andypiper.wordpress.com/ where stuff is going into a category called "24924" even though I deleted all the categories and migrated to tags. I think this may be caused by either Windows Live Writer or ecto, but I'm not sure, and I'd love to get rid of this rogue category...

Thanks for asking. Yesterday I cleared the cache, cookies and history. Just now tried to edit an existing subcategory but still get "! category not updated" message. Hierarchy remains fine but of course I am reluctant to try anything with categories in case the hierarchy gets messed up again. I emailed support yesterday (during open hours) and have not received any reply (4th email so far.)

Is this still a problem? If so, try logging out of wordpress, clearing your cache and cookies and then logging back in. Do be aware that the sidebar widgets are cached, and it may take up to a few hours for the category to disappear from the category widget.

Staff do monitor these forums, and it may be that someone will have it fixed before tomorrow morning, but if they don't, contact support and give them the details including your user name, complete blog URL and email address used to sign up for your blog.
