Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

Akismet is doing a really wonderful job keeping my blog free of comment spam (I currently get over 3,000 per month).

I've now been getting several comment spams linking to a "front site" that is hosted at WordPress.com itself!

I think WP should take down the front site immediately. Is there a specific place where I'm supposed to report this kind of thing?

I did another search of the spam bin today and found three items where spammers had included the words "Pied Type" in their spam message. As I understand it, leaving those items in the spam bin means Akismet will keep flagging my pingbacks for moderation. But if I mark them as "Not Spam," I'm giving a green light to those three spammers. I'm not sure what's going on here. Hope I've explained it clearly enough. If the devs can access it, the three items are here:

This might be an issue for Akismet but I can't figure out how to contact them directly to explain the problem.

Note that the prompt to submit and email address and a website URL will still appear, but providing an email address and logging in are not required, and you cannot change this so the prompt does not appear.

P.S. Do be sure to set up full comment moderation ie. "An administrator must always approve the comment" because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive.

The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It's removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

I like comments but don't expect them - I write what I want to write about Boating Safety - some other sites link to mine and send me traffic and I get traffic from all around the world - yes it is a nice feeling to think that in some small way I am helping to improve boating safety -

the secret to all blogs or what ever you want to call them - is to write about what you like - you should be having fun -

I will go in and try to confirm these comments and for now allow for akismet do its job. I'm not desperate for comments, I was just truly convinced that the software/plugin was defective. Thank you all for leading me in the right direction.

i want to address an important but slightly minor issue and I know you'll be able to help.
I want akismet off my site, it says everything is spam and I do mean everything is spam when actually only 3 out of over 50 comments where spam. I rather get spammed than have akismet. Apologies to vegetarians. Thanks and I look forward to hearing back from you.
