No, you REALLY don't want to do that. It much better to allow the visitor to select whether or not they want to listen to your music.

Many people will simply never return to a site that uses autoplay.

The WordPress player does not provide autoplay music. You can try an alternative player: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/alternative-audio-players/

Please note: autoplay is a major irritant for some people (myself included). Many of us will click out never to return again if we experience someone else's musical taste and have not been given an option to listen or not. I never return to such blogs.

OP may also end up with legal problems and get hit with a DMCA complaint by rebroadcasting music without proper licensing.

I had a reminder to update it yesterday but I put off because the install required closing my browser

Once I updated the player, the audio player shows up and it works fine!

If all else fails, make sure your Flash Player is up to date!

Everything was going great until I installed an mp3 file and used the
default audio player (by selecting no link).

On one of my computers (running Windows 7) the audio player comes up fine -- but when I check the page on another computer (running XP Pro Service Pack 3) there is no player, just a download link

I tried to install a player on a different page and got the same results.

I cleared the cache and will try rebooting the Windows XP machine but it
shouldn't be the problem because I rebooted less than 12 hours ago

Any suggestions? Are there any other players that can be installed on WordPress.com?

Please help because this blog will be used mainly to play audio clips

The good thing about codes like this is, you don't really have to understand how they work to make them work for you. I speak from experience. Just do the steps one after the other and it'll work out.
