as to the moderator -- sorry I wasn't clear -- I needed to catch a moderator's attention to get this post's title changed - I had accidentally left it identical to my previous post, so it doesn't match the contents of this post.

Ok. I'll just have to try it next time something comes up. I wound up manually re-entering over 100 anchors for one post I already did. Needless to say, it was a pain in the bee-hind. Also discovered that the syntax for anchors is different on my homepage/site here, versus on another site that allows folks to create a 'diary' and then post, also using wordpress. Here it's a id="uniquename", there it's the normal html syntax of a name="uniquename". What fun (trying to figure this stuff out and then keep it straight!)

Hi folks,

I created an MSWord document that had extensive internal hyperlinks for endnotes. When I copied it into wordpress, external links were maintined, but I lost all of the anchors for the internal links between the endnote and the article itself.

I've already found out how to manually create anchors, but I need to know if there is some way to paste into wordpress without losing ones that already exist.

Thanks in advance for your help with this frustrating issue!

I am finalising my blog content and have hit the buffers when trying to creat jump links within a blog. E.g. I mention a recipe, but want to take the reader to the end of the blog where the recipe is anchored. I am not used to using code, when I tried, my test appeared to work when I cut the code and modified both it and the anchor, the word in question appeared in the correct places. I thought I had it cracked, but the word was highlighted in blue and underscored. Clicking on the jump link did not take me to the anchor, in fact, nothing happened. I tried holding down control when hovering over the link, but it made no difference. What am I doing wrong? Be gentle, I am a complete code novice!

I will be developing a blog that will have 7 categories. Each blog post can contain information that falls into one or more categories. Each blog post can be several pages long. The information in the blog post pertaining to a particular category might only be a single paragraph in the middle of several pages of text.

As far as I can tell, categories are assigned to the blog post as a whole, not to specific location(s) within a post. Is there a way to assign a category to a particular location within a blog post? I read this entry on the forum: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/anchors, which describes how to insert an anchor at a specific location within a post, along with a link at the top of the post that the reader would have to click to get to that (anchor) location. In this manner one could assign a category to the blog post as a whole, then put links at the top of the page to specific areas within the blog. I'd like to avoid having to insert a link at the top of the page that the reader would have to click--I'd prefer for them to be taken directly to the pertinent paragraph when they click on the category. Is there a way to do this in wordpress?

Thank you.

Calling all bloggers.

Please help. I have written my first blog and safely saved it in my drafts.

However, at the start I have listed out as bullet points 6 subjects of the blog. I want to link each bullet point to its corresponding heading lower down the blog, so that anyone can go straight to the area they want to read, rather than having to read all the way through.

How do I do this? Do I have to insert html code, or is there a simpler way of doing this?

Works for me, too, in both Firefox and Safari.

By my book, however, the anchor should be:

<a name="books"></a>

Ah, so it is the gremlins! I wonder why it's not working on either of my computers?

One of those questions I'll probably never get an answer to I guess. Much like if you choke a smurf, what color will he turn? You know, deep and truly perplexing issues.

Thank you both!
Leah

P.S. If anyone has ever choked a smurf and knows the mystery color, please do share. My money's on gray.
