First post.

Been blogging for only about 3 months now. Just learning the ropes on the technical side. Here's my first issue:

I've got multiple blogs under one account (or email, I guess). I've got a blog which I would like to be my main blog, and another which I would like to have more risque material, and so remain anonymous.

I just realized that my gravatar is set for my main blog so that when I reply to comments on my anonymous blog, it links to my main blog, my main gravatar profile, etc. basically linking these accounts.

How can I possibly keep them separate and not have these two worlds collide? Someone please help.

different usernames for different blogs on one account

When we register a username account here the email address we provide becomes our unique identifier. When we are logged into WordPress.com and register a blog it's registered to that username account we are logged in under and to the email address which is our unique identifier. We can register as many blogs as we wish and provided we are using the same username account then all the blogs will be registered under it and the associated email account. We can change our "display name" but that display name will appear on all blogs registered under the same username account.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/#change-display-name-nickname

In order to completely separate the blogs that you do not want to be associated with each other you register another username account using a different email address when you are logged out of WordPress.com. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/ Then you add the new username account as an official user of the blog, and designate them (ie. you) as an Admin. Next you transfer one of the blogs to the new username account using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Hi

I have started two different blogs - one under a name on twitter (so I am identifiable) and the other I want as an anonymous poetry blog. I had my username as the twittername but then saw that when I posted on the second blog - visualizewhatyoucantsee, this would come up as eg 'john smith posted on visualizewhatyoucantsee's blog' so i changed it to visualizewhatyoucantsee's blog, however as my second blog is also linked into the same account it now works the other way so will say visualizewhatyoucantsee posted on John smith's blog - hence giving away the fact that it me writing both and is therefore not anonymous. I hope that makes sense?? So how can i have two different blogs but have different names showing as posting the content - so visualizewhatyoucantsee posts on visualizewhatyoucantsee's blog and John Smith posts on John Smiths blog - as they are both on my one account?

Thanks for the advice. I set up the new username account and made it an administrator like you said, but the system wouldn't let me transfer the blog - maybe it takes time for the setting up of the new username account to take effect. Anyway, I've decided to postpone transferring until I've got a bit more content on the blog - it's private for now anyway. I'll wait a while till I've got a nice lot of interesting content on there, then I'll transfer it over and go public!

Yes. Log out of WordPress.com first. Create another username account using an different email address but don't register a blog -- just a username please. Then log out. Login in under the original username and make the new username account and Admin of the blog in question. Then use the process to transfer the blog in question to the new username account > Transferring Your Blog to Another User or Account

OK, I already have several - one for work, two for someone else, one for an ongoing creative writing thing, one for a project that hasn't started yet. Now I've registered another one, again for a separate project. I'd like this one to be anonymous, in that readers won't know my identity or that I'm the same person that has the other blogs. Is this possible? I know you can mark a blog private, but once people have subscribed, then anything you post is presumably visible under the identity under which you have registered? I want to be like Belle du Jour (except not as interesting, haha) - no-one will know who I am.
Is the only answer to register again with WordPress, under a pseudonym?

In another forum question regarding anonymity, someone asked if it is possible to have two blogs under one WP username, where one blog is for business purposes and therefore displaying author's true/full name while the other blog is anonymous.

The answer suggested was that one can choose a theme that does not display the author's name for the anonymous blog. This way, visitors to the anonymous blog will not see any name displayed.

While this works, I found this is not truly safe, because Google Reader still displays the anonymous blog's author name regardless of the WP theme chosen.

To test this, use Google Reader to add a subscription for the WP blog that does not show author's name. Then, read the blog through Google Reader. Voila... the name is shown by Google Reader under the blog article's title, as "by xxx". Let's say you have a business blog that display your true name, then, that same name will be displayed in Google Reader for the anonymous blog. This gives someone else a way to link the two blogs to you, if they mean to find out.

Is there a way around this? Thanks!

Note that if you do violate the law, and are charged and end up in court, WP.com may be obliged to hand over that data. I've never heard of them doing it, but it's something to keep in mind if you're going to do something illegal.

You can get around the comments issue by signing out before commenting and using a different name and email. Just register a "for making comments only" email at Gmail or hotmail and do NOT connect that with any other account.

You can always create a second account using an alternate email address. Add the second account to your personal blog and use it to post.

If your email address is at gmail, there's a trick you can use to create a second account. Instead of '[email redacted]', use an email address like '[email redacted]' - you can add a word or number after the + character and it will still be delivered to [email redacted].

I have two blogs on WordPress that I'd like to create. One of them is about my business and so it's smart to use my real and full name. The other is about things that are more private and personal (profundity abounds).

The issue is when I change my profile name from Michael to my full name so that people who view the business blog will know its me and rightly or wrongly give me credit for what I write. But as deep and enlightening as my other blog may be I don't really want to sign my real name.

I am screwed in that I should have created them from two different email sites in the first place? I guess that wuouldn't be such a big deal if I didn't just absolutely love the names I've chosen.

Is there anyway to have one with my full name and the other with a nick?

I know, if I comment on someones blog that the admin can see my IP address. Is there any way he/she can find out who I am? Some blogs ask for an email address on your first comment before the monitor will let it be seen. In this case, does the monitor have a list of all the commentors email addresses? The blog I comment on deals with very sensitive material and I can't afford to be exposed.

Thank You
Very Much

Yes, you do.

And I have to say, if the blog has already been created and it is NOT totally private from the very start, then your username is already connected to it and handing it over subsequently to a different username will not be totally effective at hiding the connection. I recommend starting over completely, but it's entirely up to you.

I assume it's the url you don't want to lose. You could still register a second user name and then have your first one make the second one the blog administrator.
