http://thisplaceisyours.com/ - loads fine for me - Domain Helper shows you have the settings correct - but it can take 24 to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet - changes usually start after a few hours

Hi there,

I am trying to push my site live today. Last night an error message was coming up, then it was working this morning, and now the error message is back. I tried to re-upload the gravatar (it disappeared) and then when I tried to get back on the site the error message showed up again - not sure if/why this would have anything to do with it, but it's the only thing that changed.

This is the error:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/2.2.22 Server at thisplaceisyours.com Port 80

Any help would be appreciated! I need to let our supporters know we're live but don't want this bug coming back..

Basically for now is just the folder to the wordpress.com blog-environment.
At a later moment the 'old links' can be redirected.

How do I do that in a statement (like .htaccess ??) and where do I put this file (the root of the FTP-server, or the root of the directory, or else)

redirect the FTP-folder of the old site - and 'old links' - to the main wordpress.com blog/site

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

The old site is just content and some folders on a FTP-server.
This need not to be seen - and indexed - anymore.

I can delete the content, but would like to "play save" for the moment and redirect the FTP-folder of the old site - and 'old links' - to the main wordpress.com blog/site.

If you want the content on your old web server - if you have a WordPress.ORG install - Export the old blog and import it to your blog here at WordPress.COM - Seems to me there is a check box to ask the pictures to be moved also -

If your old site is a plain html site then you have a bunch of copy and pasting to do

You domain name can be mapped to your blog here once you get the content moved: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

I currently have access to an Apache webserver where in a folder are the content/webpages of an old Internet-site.

The main/original URL has been relinked already to the WordPress.com-site.
I have not installed WordPress on a server; I use the online WordPress.com environment for displaying and editing.

However, I don't want to delete all the content/directory immediately on the webserver, and am wondering if by means of a .htaccess file this directory can be rerouted to the WordPress-environment.

If htaccess is not the perfect way, which is? And how do I do this?

Which full statement do I have to use - and place this file in the root of the webserver?

Hi there,
i have a self-hosted blog and i want to buy the redirection upgrade but there is a problem:
when i moved to my self-hosted blog i didn't import anything from my wordpress.com blog,
i instead copy-paste my wordpress.com content to my new blog, therefore the permalinks
are completely different from the originals. i.e.

http://olamesa.wordpress.com/2008/10/16/pikantiki-saltsa/ (wordpress.com permalink)
vs.
http://olamesa.homeftp.net/2011/11/21/spicy-sauce/ (self-hosted permalink)

Now, i don't want to change my self-hosted blog's permalinks because they are generating a lot of traffic but,
i would like to know the way redirection upgrade formats the permalinks so i can make in advance
my own 301 redirections through apache.

I'm sorry, it seems that the NS records were just changed recently, so it might take a little while to fully propagate. Please let us know if it's still not working after 24 hours from now.

The site is hosted on wordpress.com but I am using my own domain.

The site is actually originlondon.com

When I go to the company where I bought my domain, it says that my DNS settings are

ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com

Are you referring to your WordPress.com blog? If so, could you send me a full-screen screen shot where this issue is visible. Please also try clearing your browser's cache?

OK, there is a "s" missing in the link to your username, which is what I thought was the issue.

Not knowing exactly what you mean by "log" I'll offer this general advice for issues with the dashboard. Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again.

If that does not work, try a different browser to see if it is a browser specific issue.

Your first problem is your name is linked to an empty blog.

We need the URL of the blog beginning with http and links to the Posts that are the problem so someone can look at the Posts before they can even begin to help.

Thanks for your help, I'll contact the support at .org
I'm trained in graphic design for print, but have designed websites which I then hand over to programmers to build, wordpress seems like a solution for me to be able to design and build websites myself. I don't have a great knowledge of installing programms on my localhost for development and testing, I've never done it before which is why I am here asking questions to try and learn. Thanks for your help.

My blog on wordpress.com is just something I was using as a test when going through some tutorials to learn about it, but the question was relating to wordpress.org, i didn't realise there were 2 seperate forums, but cheers for your help.

I successfully downloaded wordpress onto my machine, was getting along great with it, building a site on my localhost, and getting to know it. Today when I open my browser and type in http://localhost instead of the wordpress login page I get an Apache page which says:

Puts the install on his PC not on WordPress.COM - you will never see "localhost" with anything related to WordPress.COM. It sounds like he is either building his own host or a mirror image on his PC.

Since he does web design work I would have expected a higher level of understanding of the Web - many designers have WordPress.ORG installs on their PC for local development and testing. I have two installs on my PC from when I did design and testing for a .ORG site that I was developing.

Yes he has a site on WordPress.COM but I don't think that is what they were asking about. If they are asking about their WordPress.COM site then there is some confusion.

@auxclass , i do not understand , he has a " Blog at WordPress.com. " at the botom of his blog so why does he have to go to " org " for help , or is it as you say he is using their software which i thought we could not do at "com"

The folks over at WordPress.ORG should be able to help and get you pointed in the right direction. Apache is server software.

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.COM, this site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

apache is a web hosting service if you did not download it and don't want it , go to add and remove in your pc and find apache then click delete
