I have a blog for one of my classes and I need to explain my blog's statistics, like how many visitors, and how many clicks etc. It is due this week. I never could figure out how to get my API key for the WordPress.com Stats plug-in because I went through dreamhost.com to host the blog. I saw that the API key was in the email when I signed up for WordPress. I didn't realize it, but the API key I used was for a blog I made and deleted for my job called QUgrad. So I had put the API key in the plugin and saved it and now it is retrieving the stats for that blog.

I finally figured out how to make a API key through DreamHost and I went to put it in, I can't get it stop using the stats for a deleted blog. I have installed the reinstalled the plugin multiple times but it won't give me a place to enter a new API key. help!

Hello, I have several wordpress blogs all using the same API key to power WP Stats, and it was working fine until this morning. Now all the sites are trying to pull the same account... is there a way to fix this, or do i need to generate separate API keys for all the sites? If this is the case, is there a way to do so without making a new wordpress.com account for each one? thank you

I have a self-hosted WP blog at http://www.lanascooking.com. My original WP blog (neverenoughthyme.wordpress.org) is redirected to the self-hosted blog. On the self-hosted blog I use the WP stats plugin which requires the API key from the old wordpress.org blog. Starting this morning in the WP Stats space on the wp-admin dashboard of the self-hosted blog I'm seeing an admin login box for the old wordpress.org blog rather than the usual stats display. If I login the dashboard displays all info from the redirected wordpress.org blog. Is there any help for this?

I want to change my API Key and followed the steps on http://en.support.wordpress.com/api-keys/ to do so.

The problem is, when I (Step 7) deactivate and activate the WordPress.com Stats plugin (or even when I delete and reinstall it) I do not get a warning so that I can't go to the configuration page where I could change the API Key...
All that happens is that I of course can't follow my stats in my externally-hosted blog’s dashboard anymore ("Your WordPress.com account, .... is not authorized to view the stats of this blog")

Is there another way to change the API Key?

I'd be grateful for any advise thx

@spgwsol Thanks for the tip about the broken link in the stats plugin and about the documentation. For now, you can just press the back button to re-enter the API Key instead of clicking on that link. Also, the documentation about adding another stats user is correct, but you won't see that option unless you are logged in as the stats administrator user. Make sure you're logging in with the right username. If you're not sure which username is the right one, please post your domain and I'll look it up for you.

@nerelevant You should just use the back button for now until the link can be fixed.

@techsavvyblogger There is not a way to delete the account you created to get the API Key. You need to log in as the account used to originally setup stats and go from there.

To summarize, here are the things you should check to make sure you're WordPress.com Stats plugin is working properly:

1. Make sure you are using the latest version of the WordPress.com Stats plugin
2. Check to make sure you are logging in as the stats administrator user
(usually the original username that first setup the stats plugin)
3. Verify that the API Key you are entering matches the stats administrator user

Can anyone help about the plugin WordPress.com Stats that need an API Key ?! I register in bluehost and i use wordpress.org for my website and also i have an API key for Akismet about spams and it works.
As i pluggin WordPress.com Stats they notify that i need an API Key (from Global wordpress.com). As i registered here, i also clicked (confirm) in the option to have a free blog that offer by wordpress.com.....i dont know if information can help.
So by registration i got the API key that i use it to my website in wordpress.org which again notify me that i use an API key from another ID that belong to wordpress.com and i proceed as it was( i did that because as i was searching in wordpress.org forums, they were posts that says it can work actually).

Last night seems to work without any problem, but today it has again the notify about the API Key and it has a link to fix from the dashboard in wordpress.com which i logged in.
Also i tried to delete the plugin and re-download it again but still i have the same notification....so i deactivate the plugin not to have any further problem with others plugins......

Is there any solution out there?!

Get the API key from your profile on your account here, install the blog stats plugin, if you have not already, and then activate it and put in the API key.

Since wordpress.COM is not linked to self-hosted blogs in anyway, there wouldn't be an account created here. This is a stand-alone hosting service.

For support or problems with your self-hosted blog on Bluehost, you will typically need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where the self-hosted version is supported.

For support on the blog stats plugin though, that will be handled here, but few of the volunteers here have any experience with it, so you will probably have to go directly to staff support.

I installed wordpress using Bluehost and have started blogging. I realized I needed an API key to start getting statistics, so I opened a wordpress account. How do I connect the wordpress account to my already existing blog so I can use the API key? Do I need to do this or can I get stats some other way? It seems odd that I didn't automatically get a WordPress account when Bluehost set up the wordpress blog. Thank you.

Im having the same issue worked on it for few hours now. This should not be happening.
I even followed this link and deleted the users. My org site still did not ask for new API number. I get the 400 Bad Request nginx when I click on stats . Far as I can tell by reading lots of post there is not a solution.
