Blogs are essentially a reverse chronological order publishing tool and you cannot change this order on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. There is no setting to reverse the order of blog posts on the main page for posts or on dynamic Archives, Categories, and Tags pages.

Readers arrive to read our most recent posts. In the case of my blog that means they don't have to slog through over 800 posts to locate the most recent one.

Hi!

I have a blog via wordpress, however if I am not mistaken it is hosted by crazy domains. If this is so, I should be able to add a plugin such as 'Flexo Archives Widget'. I currently use the Monthly Archives widget supplied by wordpress, however it is getting a little long and ugly on my page. So if I am able to add this plugin, why can't I find the plugin selection on my dashboard OR if I can't add plugins and my assumption is wrong - is there a wordpress widget or something I can do to change the months to years in my archives section.

my blog is: http://www.madaboutcakes.com.au

Thank you so much for the help! Appreciate it :)

The archives shortcode is a little limited due to the fact that it was created from functions that already exist in WordPress. If you choose monthly, it will show year and month, but will not show titles. Basically this option is just like what you see in the archive widget.

If you use [archive] then you get a list of posts by title. You can see a sample of that here on one of my blogs here: http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/post-index/ . I used the option html to give me a bulleted, unordered list.

I'm hoping at some point this shortcode will be updated and expanded to have more capability, such as being able to use date ranges and perhaps lists of post by year/month, as you are wanting, with titles. I'm also hoping that in that expansion, they can give us the ability to do it by category if we wish.
