Trying to use the gallery in the Ascetica theme but text and pictures are not shown in full width (empty space on the left below header picture)

Custom excerpts cannot display videos or any other objects that are inserted via a URL or a shortcode.

You have to be adept enough at coding in the Text HTML editor to cope with such issues. You left out the final ] square bracket in the code.

Some themes are not designed to display full posts on the front page of the blog. In that case on each and every post you will have to do what follows.

On a theme that has an active excerpt box below the post editor, you can control the length of the excerpt displayed. This will have to be done on every post. This is the workaround you can use to override excerpt display on the front page.

When creating a post or page on your WordPress.com blog, you have two editing modes available to you: Visual Editor and Text Editor (HTML).

You compose your whole post first in the Visual editor and before you publish it you switch to the HTML (Text) editor, copy all the code you find there, paste it into the Excerpt box, and publish the post. http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/excerpts/#creating-excerpts

I cannot format my posts completely for the home page. I don't like the excerpt format. I want the reader to see each post in its entirety as they scroll down the page. I am using Ascetica theme.

My post has the exact answers to all your questions.
1) If you wish to make the top right menu display other items than those it does by default, you create a custom menu, add the items you want, select that menu from the Theme locations pulldown.
2) If you wish to remove the top right menu, you create a custom menu, add nothing to it, select that menu from the Theme locations pulldown.
3) If you wish to display a menu in the left sidebar instead of the top right one, you eliminate the top menu as per 2, then you create a second menu, add the items you want to it, go to Appearance > Widgets, add a Custom Menu widget to the left sidebar and select that second menu from the widget pulldown.

And if I chose to use the menu instead of a widget menu, how can I move it from the top right sidebar to the left sidebar? I don't view myself as a beginner but I feel like one right now....

Justpi, thanks.I used that exact page a few weeks ago to learn about custom menu widgets...but I don't think it solves my question.

So is the solution to make my menu empty? So it appears (on my blog homepage) that there isn't a menu in the header?

Ascetica theme....
I want to edit/remove the menu in the top right corner. It doesn't seem to be my custom menu widget nor can I find any other way to remove it. I've been stumped for hours. I've searched all kinds of forums but no one else has had this problem.

My ultimate goal is to display my menu through a widget and completely control the top right menu which seems to come default with your theme. Any help would be great.

Also, I don't use any code. Is that practical for someone like me who wants to have a future strong online blog presence?

Hello!

I think I can help. I had this problem too. If you scroll down to the 'Quick Specs' section of the Ascetica theme, you'll see that nr. 2 says:

The Featured Post Slider images must be at least 660 pixels wide and have a recommended 330 pixel height

Make sure that all your images are at least that wide and that high. Any less and they will not appear in the post slider.

Hi support,

I have the Ascetica theme for one of my blogs (http://bloggersmag.com/), but for some reason I can't get featured posts (posts I've marked as sticky) according to the demo page for Ascetica, it doesn't show up in the slider. The slider can support up to 10 stickys, but it's not posting my recent posts to slider.

Is there anything else I need to set?

I get a duplicate images on the post' One at the top and one in the text.

Don't insert the image into the post just set the featured image.

I have the Bueno theme and I have also used the Ascetica themes. Both are great. However, when I use the Featured Image setting to activate the Featured Post (Bueno) and Post Slider (Ascetica), I get a duplicate images on the post' One at the top and one in the text. Is there a way to prevent this duplication? Please look at http://adukunde.wordpress.com/

To increase the width of the columns in the Ascetica theme, add the following to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS editor:

	width: 1440px;
}

Adjust the number as necessary.

Showcase up to 10 of your favorite posts in the responsive slider by marking the post as sticky and setting a featured image that is at least 660px wide.
As noted there, “If you don’t see the Featured Image module on your Add New or Edit Post page, please make sure you’ve selected Featured Image in your Screen Options.”

I would like to know how to insert the sliding pictures/a gallery for each page like the one with ducks pics and city sky that I can see on the home page on ascetica demo - can I use more than 2 pics? 4 to 10? I want to have pics to scroll/slide like that on each page and a text underneath - all I could find is a gallery option but it is not the same effect - what option/effect/support topic is that?

I know you are new here so even though I do not help with CSS editing I'm posting to say what follows. This upgrade comes with Staff support. There are many threads in the CSS Forum awaiting Staff support. Staff deal with the threads with the earliest dates first.

Right now I don't like the width of my website's columns; they're a bit too skinny for my tastes. I'd like to increase the column width somewhat, but when I do this the widgets are re-positioned to the very bottom of the page. Is there a way to increase column width without this happening?

Thanks for the reply. That's too time-consuming to do for every single reply. All I want is for the excerpt length to be around 150 words instead of 55, but if this isn't possible I'm just going to have to deal with it. It's extremely frustrating that this isn't something I can edit.

Is it at least possible to enable linebreaks in excerpts, or is that some feature the staff ruled unconstitutional as well?
