I tried Firefox and Internet Explorer 10. I had the same problem.

I don't see anything that would prevent your ability to add tags to that post.

To rule-out a browser-specific issue, would you please try a different browser?

Are you creating posts on your own blog's dashboard here?

I did all the steps but it did not change it. Also, when I open up a new post it doesn't automatically make a permalink. I have to save it as a draft to get a permalink. I reinstalled Firefox 20.0.1 last week.

For about a week I am unable to add tags to my new blog posts. I tried publishing the blog post and then editing in tags later but still does not show up. I can't even get a list of my most used tags. I've tried to do this with Firefox and Internet Explorer but the same thing occurs.

You aren't missing anything. My recommendation is not to create posts here http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ lest you actually want to create an Aside (post format) with no title and no categories and tags, rather than a Standard post format. I create all posts on my own blog's dashboard and I recommend you do the same.

Edit the post and look in the far right hand column under the post attributes box for post formats. Choose "Standard" and add your categories and tags. Then click "Update".

When using what I'm calling the quick-post feature from one's home page (as opposed to the more robust "new post" in the dashboard), there doesn't appear to be a way to edit the category of the post, only its tags. Is there something I'm missing? If not, this is a feature I think should be added, considering categories sort of go hand-in-hand with tags.

It appears rather than creating standard format posts on your own blog's dashboard at > Posts > Add New http://marylandinstituteresearch.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php you have created "asides" on the front page of WordPress.com at http://wordpress.com/#!/post/

You can edit the posts in bulk and chnage the post format from aside to standard. See:

And by the way, while WP is improving the posts list, it would be helpful to have a filter/tab at the top for Asides, like the current tabs for Sticky and Drafts.

Have just noticed a change in the way Asides are handled in our list of posts. Yes, they are now easier to pick out with the little symbols on the left side. However, in both quick edit and bulk edit, there is no longer a setting for changing them from Asides to Standard posts. With The Morning After theme, this change is the only way I've found to move old Asides off my front page. My only option now is to edit each Aside individually. Hope this is just an oversight by WP.

What about two new widgets ... one that would insert a shoutbox for the author(s) of the blog (that only they could see), and another to display the status messages?

It strikes me that there are many times when I would like to make short Facebook-type comments, that wouldn't be appropriate for a blog with a specific theme. Status messages / asides in the sidebar would free the blog author up from that problem. They could make small comments in relation to anything they needed to, and it wouldn't have to relate to the blog theme as a whole.

There is already a way to make asides, or rather to mark posts as asides ... this would be one logical step forward with that. You could remove the asides from the normal flow of posts, and put them up in the sidebar.

This is probably a post formats issue http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/

If you are creating all your posts on the front page of WordPress.com at this link http://wordpress.com/#!/post/ then you are creating asides - not standard posts.

If you create your posts here on your own blog's Dashboard > Posts > Add New at this link http://anniesdishlist.com/wp-admin/post-new.php then you can select the "standard" post format in the far right hand column and this will not be an issue.

You can Bulk Edit your posts from the Edit Posts Screen and select the "standard" post format and then click "update"

My blog post title is not showing on my main page.

However, when I put in the direct URL for the post itself, it works:

The title also shows up in the archive menu at the side.

How can I get it to show?
