I used to post pictures and attach them to a particular gallery. When I would click "attach" it would give me a choice of either attaching to a page or a post. Now it seems to be all posts. Where are the pages? I search for the page and only get posts with that name and because there are so many, I can't scroll all the way to find the page with the same name. Anyone with me? I don't know how to describe it.

While there are changes coming to the way media is handled, for the meantime you can only directly insert the Gallery from the Image Uploader or by typing the shortcode in your post or page after you've uploaded the images to that post or page.

If you want to insert images that are already found in your Media Library, you will have to use "includes" in the Gallery shortcode.
Once you click that button, the Gallery tab will appear in the Image Uploader and you can insert the gallery from there, or simply close the Image Uploader and type the following at the point you want the Gallery to appear:

I find when I move a site from a folder into the root of the same hosted account that it will also break all the pictures and linked files and even the design, because of the folder name is still in the url references for these files. I fix this by manually removing the folder reference (eg in a page or post, going to HTML view, etc), or by downloading a copy of the database and doing a search and replace in a text editor to remove the folder reference - be careful with this and keep a backup of the backup.

What I'm saying is you may need to correct the url that your WordPress site is using to try to find these files (change it from the old hosted url to the new WordPress.com hosted url).

I have a self-hosted blog (www.andyjfrost.com) and I no longer want to pay for that service so I'm just going to stick with a simpler WordPress.com blog (andyjfrost.wordpress.com). I was able to use the Tools > Export / Import functions to import all my posts to the WordPress.com blog BUT all my photos are linked to self-hosted site still. All the photos are in the Media folder on the new WordPress.com site but they just aren't attached to the new posts.

I have 488 photos, any way to link these to the existing posts quickly or do I have to just go through and re-attach them one by one?

Basically, it looks like an edit invalidated the HTML around the images. Unfortunately, Annotum doesn't have an HTML editor tab, like other themes, so it's pretty much impossible to fix without deleting the areas and re-inserting the images.

When I first imported my mxi history article from google knol last month, the images showed and were matched correctly with the figured legends. I made a few text edits, and now the images no longer show. Instead there's an icon over the legends, but no images. I have approximately 100 images in the article. The images are visible in the Media Library. They were unattached, so I bulk attached them to my wordpress article, but they still don't show up. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you. Tim

Yes you can call a gallery of images uploaded to another post. You get the ID number of that post and add this in the HTML editor of the other posts:

[gallery id="NUMBER HERE"]

That will give you a gallery of three thumbnails per row. If that's not what you would prefer, you'll need more options on the shortcode, for instance:

[gallery id="NUMBER HERE" columns="2"]

or:

[gallery id="NUMBER HERE" columns="1" size="full"]

You control the default size of thumbnails etc. in Settings>Media.

To find the ID number of a post, you go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the title of that post and check the info in the progress/status bar of your browser.
