That's not possible. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

I am looking for a specific wordpress domain, but it says taken when I type it in the "Blog Address" it says it is taken. So I go to the [blognameIwant].wordpress.com and it says "[blognameIwant] is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site." Can I contact WordPress and gain control of this domain? Is no one allowed to own it?

For information on how to add users (authors and contributors) to your site and set their user permissions, see User Roles — Support — WordPress.com.

Contributor allows access and the ability to add content but not publish it. It must be published by the Editor or Administrator.

WordPress.com offers a free feature to request "feedback" on a post before publishing it, giving the invited guest a link to see the draft of the post. See Request Feedback — Support — WordPress.com.

Also check out the extensive series on managing multiple authors in WordPress if you need more information and details. For example, some WordPress Themes will feature the author bio at the bottom of their posts and on the author pageview (the web page showing the author posts from the link around their byline). There are also author Widgets to feature the authors in the sidebar available.

I need help understanding how to add authors to my company's blog posts. I manage our blog and post everything, but I want to add more segmentation and attach authors to each post, without having them actually make the post. I then need the author name to function as a link that would feed back to the authors page or all previous posts from that author. I have read a number of articles, but the entire process is still confusing to me. Looking for some assistance if possible. Thank you

I have a 2 part question...

Hey i have a couple people who write for my site. but when they post it doesnt share to my connected links (twitter, fb, etc.) is there a way to switch that?

Also i made a whole other blog just so i can invite them to write, however they have the same access is there another way to invite them even if they dont have a wordpress site so i can see who is posting what. I dont want to give them access to my account either...

Regardless of the theme, bylines will only display now if there are at least two authors who both have at least one published post in the blog.

I have the Coraline theme but I can't quite figure out how to show the author's name next to the post. I have seen two other blogs with the Coraline theme do so, http://thetased.wordpress.com/ and http://www.thedailytruffle.com/, it's just I can't get the hang of it. Can anyone help with this?

Hello.

Our WordPress is more website than blog -- at least we intended it that way. So it is not an option for me to 'invite' people to be authors.

Hence my question is, is there is any way to 'create' profiles and/or author-pages for each person (with their name, picture and bio while also giving links to their respective articles)?

Yes, I've tried making separate 'categories' for each of the authors, but that isn't helping me much.

Would be grateful for any help!

Here is the status update: the "Top Authors" widgets doesn't show up if less than two authors have received views today and yesterday, so that would explain why you sometimes see it and sometimes don't. It's on the developers' list to fix, so that it shows up regardless, even if there are no author views (but I don't have a timeframe for when it will be fixed).

In the meantime, the workaround is to bookmark the Summary page and access your Top Author stats from there.

1) Login to wordpress
2) Go to Dashboard
3) Click Stats icon at top of page OR click 'Site Stats' along left column menu
4) Scroll down to bottom of various stats boxes/categories
5) Left column of body at bottom is Top Authors (when it shows up)

I can certainly understand that this is frustrating. I would love to reproduce your issue, and it would really help if you could take a screenshot and the exact details (browser, how you accessed your Stats page, what you clicked and in what order). Yes, that is how I access Top Authors. I always scroll down on the stats overview or summary page (not sure what it's called) and then click Summary on whatever item I want to focus in on. Top Authors, if it decides to show up, is on the bottom left column of the overview page.

On that stats overview page though, sometimes Top Authors shows up, sometimes it does not.

You happened to catch it when it was there. Like I commented above, it was not there last week, then eventually it decided to show up.

This is a long running issue. I've posted in these forums before about the same thing but cannot find that older post.

You could also have each author add a category with his / her name then make a custom menu or custom menu widget or copy the link code to the author bios.

It might well be that timethief has covered that idea in the post she linked to. Right now, I'm called to dinner so won't check that out. Just know that she won't steer you wrong. She always has good, tried & true advise.

Oh, I meant that you could use the link in your biographies. You could have both or just use the link. The widget will show most recent posts and the link will show all the posts by the author:
http://BLOG_NAME.wordpress.com/author/AUTHOR_NAME/
That is the form your link would take; change name for each author.

The widget is interesting because it automatically shows each author's posts automatically. Sort of a little extra promo for them. But you would not need to use it.

Thank you. The widgets are good but I was hoping to have just a link to include within each writer's bio. Perhaps I can copy the URL produced when clicking on each author through the widget.

Hi there, sorry about the frustration. I was able to find your Top Authors stats by following these steps:
1) Go to http://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/
2) Scroll down to the bottom where "Top Authors" are shown
3) Click on "Summaries" - from there, you can see the stats for 7 days, 30 days, etc.

Is this how you access the Top Authors stats, too? When you say that your Top Authors stats are not showing, do other elements of the Stats page load correctly? A screenshot would help me better understand the issue and assist you, if you could upload one to your Media Library.
