No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

Thank you timethief and kathryn for your help, it is much appreciated.

I was a bit suspicious about self-hosted Fresh & Clean because a) it isn't listed at wordpress.org/themes and b) the developer hasn't made it easy to contact him from wpexplorer.com (not saying that the work there isn't good, obviously). But the demo at wpexplorer.me is reassuring.

A client of mine who is using Fresh & Clean wants to have a 'slider' on the home page (their site is private, but I have installed the theme on my test area with the url given here).

The theme does come with a 'slider' but it doesn't seem to 'slide'... you have to manually click between slides to change them.

On the developer's site it says: 'Via the theme panel you can choose your sliding speed, animation and transition. You can also define a custom link for each slide or leave the option blank to show only images.' But those options are not on my dashboard.

Is this no longer supported? Or am I perhaps missing something. I do appreciate it is a free theme and I would be grateful for any insights.

Otherwise, are there any other good free themes with sliders that automatically pull post titles into the slide?

Many, many thanks.

Also, some of the posts have the same image, and that could make it seem like the slideshow isn't advancing some of the time when it actually is advancing and just happens to show the same image a few times in a row.

The Modularity Lite home page slideshow at http://whyisthatfunny.wordpress.com/ is currently working for me when I check it. Try clearing your browser cache and checking it again. I also noticed that several of your posts have broken images in them, and that might be causing some trouble for you. I would recommend going through and fixing any broken images. See "graduation speech" for example, it has a reference to a broken image http://whyisthatfunny.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/3.jpg at the top. To fix that, you will need to open the post for editing, remove the broken image and re-insert an image either from your media library or computer.
