I create a post, and backdate the scheduled publish date. The permalink reflects the scheduled backdate (using the /year/month/postname structure). I publish the link. When I enter the permalink into the browser, I get a page not found error. When I click on post links on the blog's front page, I get the same error.

Found out that multi-site has some weird thing set up with appending /blog/ to permalinks. Deleting that resulted in same errors. Changing /blog/ to /post/ also resulted in same errors.

I want posts to have a /year/month/postname structure. I'll settle for a /post/year/month/postname structure. Do I have to reinstall WordPress?

@sseuja - as far as I know, if you put a post into draft (or not take it out of draft) and then publish it (publically) then it will show up newly in RSS. I'm not sure about email. I've done this myself from time to time and people are usually able to see it.

@dribblingpensioner - while I can't know sseuja's reason, a lot of people like to backdate posts so that they appear in the correct chronological order or so that they 'fall back' out of view - depending on whether they want them to be seen or not! :)

If I backdate a post when publishing it, will my followers/subscribers receive the post at all in RSS or email? For further clarity, by "backdate a post when publishing" I mean publish a post at an earlier date than the date of the post's initial (draft) writing.

http://lavendral.wordpress.com

On this blog I post entries that are translations of things published earlier elsewhere. I backdate my entries to match the time/date of the originally published entries.

I would like the permalink date to reflect the backdate (say, June 2011), NOT the date I am actually publishing it (March 2012).

I got this to work once ( http://lavendral.wordpress.com/2011/06/28/maaya-062811-journal-entry -- as you can see, the date in the permalink is correctly backdated even though I actually published this March 2012) but it won't do it again for another entry I'm writing.

Here's how I'm trying to make it happen. I open a new entry. I first edit the date to be the backdate (right now I want it to be yesterday, March 21 2012) and hit OK. Then I add in the post title. The permalink is instantly created but for some reason it uses today's date instead of the date I chose. It completely ignores the publish date I've chosen in favor of today's actual date.

I just tried clearing the cache and I've tried this about 5 times now with different past dates and titles and it won't work any time.

I don't understand why this won't work the way it did before. Is this not possible (anymore)? Help, please! As a non-upgraded user I can't contact support.

I am doing a project with high school students wherein they are blogging "as if" they are witnessing events at the time of the U.S. civil war. We'd like them to date their posts appropriately, but the backdate feature only allows us to go back to 1970. Is there any work around that would allow my students to backdate into the 1860s?

Hi folks

I'm just setting up my blog at http://andywood.wordpress.com

I write humorous articles based on topical news and have some pieces I wrote a few weeks back I'd like to post -- back dated. The date of these articles is important because the pieces are topical.

Is there anyway to back date a post on my blog?

Cheers
Andy
