Unfortunately suggesting things for the functions (or anything else, really) on these forums is like spitting into the wind - pointless. Most of the people who address problems in these forums are volunteers. If you see 'staff' or 'happiness engineer' beneath someone's username, they're just that - otherwise, we're just normal bloggers who come by to help.

Oh, bad news. Two months is approaching the end-time when it automatically becomes a feature instead of a bug.

That locks it in. Then you can blog and Update and it will save. Then, when you're ready, hit Public and poof, it all works.

It SHOULD autosave as you go along. Something is seriously wrong with the autosave and has been for a couple of months. People are very upset about it, but nobody has yet found the cause.

I was under the impression that my text was being saved as I wrote, without my having to do anything to initiate it.
Evidently, I've just been lucky, as I've never lost an entry before. The bug finally caught up with me. Now I know. I hate to kvetch about something I'm getting for free, but why not have the 'save" feature kick in automatically? Just ask'n.

The automatic backup kicks in when you click 'save' for the first time, not before. And you should be able to find previous versions (called 'revisions') in a module somewhere on the post editor page. It'll appear after you've saved the first time. If you can't see it there, scroll up to the top of the post editor window to where you'll see a tab called 'screen options' and check 'revisions' and it should appear.

When I encountered the problem, one of the things I tried to do was change the url (to see if that would help). As far as I can tell, it didn't, and I tried following the steps you listed above. The url of that one is http://lishygirl.wordpress.com/ Is there any other way I can solve that problem?

trying another browser

If those do not work for you then we need to know
(1) how you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com. The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

I am attempting to upload a PDF to my blog using Firefox on a Mac. I go through all the necessary Add Media, File URL, Insert Into Post, Publish steps and am able to create a link on a post that supposedly displays the document but when I click on the link, a blank white screen is displayed.

When I look at the uploaded PDF using Safari or Internet Explorer, I am able to see the PDF as it should be displayed. I have done quite a bit of searching online and through these forms and have not been able to find someone with a similar problem or resolution. Does anyone out there have an idea what might be going on/what I can do to fix it?

Your suggestions actually worked but it does add to the time element.
Those from timethief didn't. I wrote back with the information requested:
I have Windows XP Professional, DSL via AT&T, use Firefox 11.0, but have access to IE, Google Chrome, Safari. Flash is most recent update, as is Java & all Adobe.

Anyone have any more suggestions? Will wordpress.com start paying attention to this problem - I don't appear to be the only one that needs a solution.
