An interesting post on The Write Transition yesterday has sparked some discussion about blogrolls (http://carrierubin.com/2013/01/07/blogrolls-yea-nay-or-maybe/).

I suggested a blogroll widget that functions like the "community" widget would be a great way to keep our blogrolls up to date, and we wouldn't need to feel bad about leaving out some (or many) blogs we follow.

An ever-rotating list of 10 or 20 blogs would be a nice way to bring other bloggers to our readers' attention without requiring too much maintenance time.

Just a thought!

Hi,

I have a Blog with me and 5 friends, that is updated Mon to Fri with the occasional Saturday post, so there is regularly new content available to read.

What we need however is some readers....We, haven't been doing to bad so far but we are looking to expand and a few blogrolls never hurt anyone.

If you like the content of our blog and we like the content of your blog, we would be more than happy to consider setting up a blogroll, because after all we could all do with more views right?

Go to manage > links, click the checkbox to the left of the link you wish to delete and then click the delete button at the upper left.

To add other blogs, you will need the URL (internet address) of the blog and then on the page I referenced, there is an "add new" link at the top of the page. Paste the URL address into the URL field and then give it a name, assign a category if you wish and you save it.

I have the blogroll widget, and I've figured out how to add my own blog to my blogroll (ACK!) but now I can't figure out how to delete it. I understand how to add random wordpress blogs, but how do I add blogspot blogs or blogs from other services? I'm at http://justonemorebite.wordpress.com

I'm trying to build my blogroll/links list but I'm getting a "There are no options for this widget" message. I had a feeling that this change (.com 2.5 or whatever it's being called) so I didn't try to do anything with my widgets until today.

I'm using Simpla.

I thought a workaround might be to just build it in a text widget, but I'm not sure if links are allowed. I haven't read the FAQ or anything on what is allowed in a text widget and what isn't. That would be my next step (if I find out that my links widget won't be fixed).

Under presentation > widgets, you can put different widget into your sidebar. The blogroll widget is actually called "links" (I wish they would either stick with one name or the other). You add links under blogroll > add links. By default, all entries you make under blogroll will be in the blogroll category. If you want to separate your links into blogroll and links for example, create and assign categories to the different links on the add links page. Then in your widget, they will be separated and displayed under those category names.

html code, images and such can be added to text widgets. Once you drag the text widget up to the "sidebar" pane, click on the icon on the right end of the text widget and a window will open where you can add a title and also the html and such. If you need more text widgets, scroll down on presentation > widgets and increase the number of text widgets and click save.

While I figure out how to transfer by blog posts from my Serendipity blog, I have another question - is there a way to add stuff to the side bar, like html code for my blogrolls, etc???

All wordpress.com blogs have only one Blogroll located in the Admin area where you enter all links and assign each link to one or more Categories.

-> Blogroll

The links you enter into your Blogroll are displayed only after the Links widget is placed in your sidebar. Also note that there must be at least one link assigned to a Category before it will appear in your sidebar.

Likewise, the Category widget must be placed in the sidebar for posts to display. And just like links when it comes to posts there must be at least one published post in a Category before the Category will be displayed in your sidebar.

Once your Links widget and Categories widget are positioned in your sidebar, the manner in which the links you entered into your Blogroll will be displayed is alphabetically in accord with the Categories you created and assigned to those links when you entered them into your Blogroll.

Therefore as you will have multiple Categories it may look like you have multiple Blogrolls when you view your links in your sidebar. But in truth, you only have only one Blogroll, which is displays links as separate alphabetically ordered groups, in accord with the Categories that you assigned to those links when you entered them into your Blogroll.

* Also note that the foregoing does not apply to the Blix theme which is hard-coded to display all links in one alphabetically organized row.

Is there any way to get multiple blogrolls on the side of the Andreas04 theme (my page is vjmorton.wordpress.com). What I want to do is subdivide by category that I choose myself (religious links, films links, political links, etc.)

Blogroll links are displayed in your sidebar when you drag and drop the Links widget into place. They are displayed in alphabetical order according to the category you assigned to the links when you entered them. Some themes show the sidebar on all pages and some don't. This depends on what the designer chose to do with them.

This is how to make links "invisible".
If you edit any of the links on your Blogroll => Manage => Blogroll and open them up will find blue buttons on the right hand side of the page beyond the ditor box.
Find "Visible" and click the plus + sign. It will open and you can choose "yes" or "no" then click "Update Options". This should do the trick. And yes you do have to edit and change each one that you want to become "invisible" and leave only "b" entries as visible.

i am using PressRow by Chris Pearson. I would like to know how do i display a certain category of links on my blogroll on my homepage.

for example, i have category a, b, c and d of links in my blogroll. however, since there are so many links, i would like to display only a and b category of links in the blogroll on my mainpage, while e rest can be in the "LINKS" page, where i display all of em.

how do i do that?

Yes cornell is right. Add a category named Links and move your links to this category.
Even I think this is odd, but that's the way it is.

Don't forget that you'll need to put your links into categories. If you don't then they won't appear in the links widget.

Probably i'm in error...

but i think that if I insert some link in 'blogroll' section, and then add the 'links' widget to sidebar, this widget will shows then link i inserted in blogroll.

but not there are some links in blogroll, the links widget is on the left sidebar... but link dosen't appear !

why ?

In case anyone else has an issue such as this, we have a pair of instructions to follow:

- A checklist to double check your settings.

- If that still doesn't cover the issue, Podz says to send in a Feedback as it maybe a backend issue.

liquidat - the link you have is not in a category.
Create a category and assign the link to that category. If the category cannot be created or does not 'stick' to the link, use Feedback and I'll get that sorted for you.

Hello all!

I have followed podz instructions, and it did work! Check all the links in your bookmarks sections. You should assign a category to each bookmark link, else your bookmarks will not appear on the sidebar. Go to Bookmars > Manage Bookmarks, create the categories for each sort of bookmark. Edit each bookmark to add it to a category. After saving the changes, check your blogsite. Voila! All your bookmark links are already there in your sidebar!
