No, there is no way to forgo paying twice for the theme, because the WP.com version is highly customized to work here. It looks a lot like the WP.org version, but it isn't, under the surface.

You can't use a whatever.wordpress.com URL on a WP.com blog, but you CAN purchase a redirect upgrade that points your readers at the new blog.

Hello :)

Hey my name is Henry. I love the Further theme first off. I purchased it for use on my wordpress com site ShrugandHugs.com . I am now using bluehost (wordpress.org) to migrate my website which is needless to say a work in progress http://69.195.124.110/~shrugsan/shrugsandhugs/ I was wondering if there was a way I could forego paying twice for the theme. I just purchased this new theme within less than the month through wordpress com - not the creative commons (along with custom design - custom fonts and other add ons).

I would also like to keep my current URL from wordpress com and use it on wordpress.org. What are my options?

Respectfully Henry S

Just visited your site and a lot of Posts on the front page - full Posts that made the front page load slowly - in my opinion - much better to use the "More Tag" on the Posts so the whole Post does not need to load - if you still want to have the full Post for the top one or two - then maybe at the #3 Post is start putting in the More Tag for it and in for all the Posts below - that also makes it much easier for new visitors to page down and see what each Post is about - then they can click on and view the ones that are most interesting

Hi Kat,

You don't want to wait for it to expire and try to purchase again. There are too many folks who try to make a quick buck by automatically purchasing expire domains as soon as possible.

With WordPress.com, you can change the settings to point to BlueHost or you could transfer the domain to a different registrar (like namecheap.com, etc).

Details: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/

If you're happy with renewing your domain with WordPress.com, you'll just need to change the nameservers. Verify with BlueHost, but they'll typically be something like ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com.

Again, verify that with BlueHost before changing anything, but to give you an idea of what a nameserver address looks like.

The important thing is to either 1) renew it or 2) transfer it before it expires. Rebuying an expired domain can be a real pain, and often not possible if a squatter picks it up.

Hope that helps. Cheers!

Hi,

I have a blog on wordpress. I upgraded it sometime last year, so that I could have a custom name: http://katcameronillustration.com instead of http://katcameronillustration.wordpress.com

My upgrade is about to expire in May.

I have installed wordpress.org onto my private domain hosted by bluehost.com where I have my main website: http://www.katcameron.com
and want to move my wordpress hosted blog there, but retain the name http://katcameronillustration.com

I would prefer to be hosted by bluehost and use wordpress.org, so that I can monetize my blog as well as having access to plugins etc.

Is there a way that wordpress can retire the name early so that I can buy it through bluehost, or can someone help me transfer it. who do I contact to facilitate this process. I don't want to wait until May when it expires. I would prefer to do this now.

Thanks

Hi there,

Unfortunately, as timethief says you cannot transfer a domain that was registered fewer than 60 days ago. This is not a WordPress.com rule, it is true for any domain you register anywhere.

What you can do is leave the domain registered here, but point it at your self-hosted WordPress.org site. We have a whole support document that walks you through the process at:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

Once you get your new WordPress.org site set up, you can use the instructions in that document to point your domain at your new site.

Does that clarify things for you?

Best!

Hi there - your DNS for bearsdenpizza.com looks set up correctly; both name servers are pointing to Bluehost. I'm seeing your self-hosted site here: http://bearsdenpizza.com/

Issues like the ones you describe can sometimes be caused by two things:

1 - a person or company's ISP that is not updating its DNS records frequently enough. This usually resolves itself after enough time has passed - sometimes up to 72 hours after DNS changes are made.

2 - a computer that is caching DNS records for too long, so the old name servers get "stuck."

For item 2, you could try flushing the DNS cache of any computers where you're not seeing the correct site. The method for doing this depends on whether it's a PC or Mac, and what OS the machine is running. If you let me know the specifics, I would be glad to point you to the instructions for flushing the DNS cache on your machines.

I'm still not understanding really. I wish someone from support would get back to me I wrote them the same thing basically. I just want this all done as soon as possible because I was already accepted through affiliate websites through the name I bought here for 30 bucks....raekay207.com so it CAN NOT CHANGE or I wont get credit or payment. At the time i didn't realize i couldn't do it at this free site. So I just want to start paying Bluehost, change to wordpress.org and get this thing going asap, but seriously, ill pay their 150 or whatever they asked for if they do it for me, because no matter how many countless nights I've spent on the web looking this stuff up and I think I am getting a handle on things...I don't want to mess anything up. So where is the support people who actually work on the site...I guess they have no phone number?!
