After noticing it on the first day, I began tracking it once the day turned over (since all the stats start at zero) and noticed there was a pattern for the first half-hour or so. I just applied that pattern to the who situation and figured it was all from one source. There is no way for me to track any individual hit, so I just tried to apply a pattern from what information I could gather. I didn't suspect that the views from the same search engine and search term would be coming from different countries, however, so it looks like my method was wrong.

Thanks for the reply.

I suppose it makes sense that you're not able to block IPs since you don't track that information. Thankfully, the problem seems to have resolved itself, and I haven't received anymore of those hits for the past few hours.

I am surprised to see there are multiple countries behind those search hits since it seemed those 2000+ hits were from one source. You mentioned that these are valid views, so I'm guessing it would not be possible to remove them, but I'm curious if there is so may to modify it. I realize this is becoming more of a personal preference, but I figure there's no harm in asking whether it is possible or not.

Thanks again for you effort.

It just started the other day, but I've been receiving a bunch of hits on my blog from a bot. It's from the same country, same search engine, same search term, and ends up at the same post on my blog. While it is nice to see my views rise exponentially, it is a bit annoying because it overshadows everything else on my blog and skews how to interpret my views and which areas on my blog are doing well.

My question for WordPress is simple: Is it possible to block the IP that's been hammering my site? And is it possible to remove those search terms/views from my site to return it to its accurate totals?

Thank you for your time and support. I appreciate it.
I just added one to my site for people to request a Vessel Safety Check and they are ask a series of questions that give us some information needed the first time and cut down on the back and forth questions, where the vessel is located, length, fuel type, is the vessel on a trailer or in the water etc. should save us some hassle by getting the required information up front.

@tellyworth, I think that natarumah wanted to check the spam messages caught by Akismet to make sure nothing legit was there. With so many spam messages (258) it made it difficult to do so.

What I've found is that those spam comments disguised as "nice comments" don't even include links to sites anymore in the body of the message. The "catch" is either their email or the website address they leave behind. I just dump those with the other spam.

@natarumah-you are right. You can't actually ban someone from leaving a comment, you can only either hold it for moderation or banish it to Akismet. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/

I am accustomed to a few spam comments to be in my akismet spam box when I get back from the weekend - this time, however it was a doozy: 258 comments, and more are added every hour!

Each comment is made by 1 poster (I guess it's a bot) and is full of links and all the nice things we came to expect of a spambot. However, it is getting exceedingly hard to find anything that might "not" be spam when you have over 10 pages to cycle through.

Since they are all made by 1 bot with an identifiable name/email address, is there any way to ban it from posting in the first place, to calm my nerves a bit?

I'm the friend he is referring to. I'll add in all the details I know as well, and hopefully offer some more insight on the problem. My blog everythingisstupid.com wasn't working correctly two days ago. During that time, the TC tried signing in and was unsuccessful. Prior to this, he was able to do so easily. Originally, he was signing in directly to the user account for my blog. However after several attemps to remedy it, we decided he should get a WordPress account as well, however, the problem still stands. As he mentioned, I'm willing to bet that due to so many password failures, it may have classified him as a bot or simply spam, and blocked his IP address. This is the only solution I could come with as we have tried virtually everything possible.

One final note, I have not upgraded to the latest version of WordPress yet. Would this have anything to do with it?

I had a username/account created by a friend who runs a website from here. I am one of the admins from the site, etc. etc.

Well, the problem is that I can no longer sign into wordpress.com as myself. I was able to sign in twice and everything was fine, but the third time, I was informed that my password was incorrect; however, I was 100% sure it was correct. I tried my personal password, a variation of it for good measure, then the third time I tried the original password given to me just to see if it had been reset. All three were incorrect. After the third time, I was informed that my username was now incorrect, yet it was the same one I was assigned originally. I've exhausted all possibilities with trying to rectify this problem.

Since, no matter what I do, I am told my username is now incorrect, I believe wordpress.com might have listed me as a "bot" and blacklisted my IP address. Further evidence of this is that I can't sign in on the other computer in my house. I'm going to try logging in on my Wii with the Internet Channel, but I doubt if that works... and I don't want that to be the only way to sign back in to wordpress.com if it does happen to work.

However, I was able to make my own account with no problems, so wouldn't that rule out an IP address problem? But, at the same time, the person who created the account for me can log in as me, and the other admins at the website can log in as me with no problems... so that *does* point to an IP address problem, correct?

Any suggestions with fixing this?

I've tried:

-Password reset
-Having the person that created my account reset my password
-Having the person that created my account abolish it and make me a completely new account (tried twice with variations of my original username)
-Making a completely new account myself and linking the accounts together (having an admin make you an author for a site)
-Cleared my cache/etc. before trying to login after doing everything listed above

Help would be immensely appreciated.
