I clicked on the link you sent about the text enhance thing and followed their advice to put that site on my restricted list. I figured out how to disable all add ons and stuff in firefox. It seems to finally have worked. I cleared history caches and cookies like four times and rebooted the computer each time. I'm hoping this works. thanks for your help.

WordPress.com does not use text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments. So far everyone who has reported this has had a browser-add-on or browser extension that causes it. In some cases it was embedded into free games they downloaded from the internet.

Please try logging out, clearing your browser cache and cookies, disabling all browser add-ons and extensions, clearing your browser cache and cookies, and then rebooting and logging in again. View your blog and tell us if you still see advertising or not.

This is not WordPress as they do not do that. It's possibly from your own computer via an add-on that you have installed. You will need to disable each one individually until you find the culprit, and then remove it.

Hi this morning I noticed that when I publish my posts some of my words are double lined (linked) to advertisements. These are not ad displays but rather links to advertisements. I am not happy about this in the least, since I am not the one doing it and I feel that it interferes with the content and message of my posts. Can you tell me what I need to do to remove this extremely annoying feature? thank you Donna Erickson

In other words, the problem is something you added to your browser. Disable the add ons and then only restore them one by one, checking the blog to see which extension it is that's adding these links. Then post the name of the add-on here so other people using it can be warned.

Other people are not seeing those links, only you.

I'm sorry I made a mistake above when I didn't include this quote from you. The random links and the "ads not by this site" are coming from a browser add on or browser extension. We have also discovered that those who upload free games have that advertising embedded in it too.

The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade. WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

I realize that there are going to be ads on this site when it's free but some of the ads are inappropriate, e.g. sexy girl invitations. Apparently it does say "ads not by this site" but do you have control over the content of these? I do not have an adult site option. Also, there's a random linked word in one of my posts that links to winning a free iPad. Is feature also part of the free usage? I'm using the blog for a university class and these features are invasive and annoying. If I have to update and buy a noAds version I wanted to make sure that this (ad content and random links within the blog) is something that your business has control over. Thank you.
