Essentially, it works like a database. You look for the English string and suggest a French translation. Then, a validator for your language (French Canadian) reviews and approves/changes the translations, and then once they are deployed on our end, you will see the changes reflected on the French WordPress.com.

This support article gives more details on how things work in GlotPress. If you have any more questions or run into issues when suggesting a new translation here, feel free ask!

I suggest you take a look at the Forum and participate in the conversations you find relevant. It helps you to observe experienced bloggers and how they interact with the "community". You can learn a lot from them....

Promoting your blog effectively both within and without the wordpress.com community takes time and energy. There is no passive way to do this.
My advice is to set up Sharing options on your blog so they appear on each post and your readers can use them to share your posts on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

The next steps are all very active steps and as you underatke them remeber that if you comment, comment, comment on similar blogs in the same niche you will generate some traffic to your own blog. If you sit and wait then your blog will only get a trickle of traffic.

Yesterday was my first day "here".

I've figured out the basics of the site...
Though I cannot seem to figure out how to "make friends" or find other peoples blogs to wander to.

It's pretty lonesome when you can't figure it out. Feels like I'm writing to a journal with changeable backgrounds.

What else is there to do on this site?

I think many of us would. All the themes are designed by different designers who choose which features to include. They release their themes which are coded to run on wordpress.ORG software, and provided they are truly free GPL licensed themes without any sponsored links, or hidden links in them, then they can be considered by wordpress.COM staff for adapation so they will run on wordpress.COM software. If you check the forum searchbox you will find there is a lengthy thread with many pages dating back a couple of years with theme recommendations in it.

I like the way iNove's tabbed pages in the menubar display nested pages.

Perhaps I've missed it, but it would be wonderful to be able to browse for other sites by topic rather than just search for blogs by tags. In other words, have users specify "master tags" that encompass what their blog is generally about. Currently, because users use tags fairly liberally, you end up with a lot of results that aren't necessarily what you are looking for.

I had this idea as I was trying to find blogs (sites) that cover particular topics to add to my blogroll.

And if I would have checked the link, I would have told you that you are in the wrong forum since your blog is self-hosted. To have more themes you will need to find them on the internet and then upload them to your blog via FTP.

Also, you need to inquire about self-hosted blogs over at http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ . Things here work differently and our answers will not work for you as you have found out.

Underneath the words "browse themes" there is "random" "a-z" and "popular." Click on "a-z" and you can then see all the themes on 6 pages.

Also, to the right of the search box is a "features filter" link. You can click that and then click on the different features you are looking for and it will sort through the themes and give you only themes that match your filter criteria.

According to <http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/> the Dashboard's "Manage Themes" page is supposed to show a "browse area" labeled "Browse Themes". My Dashboard shows the current theme, and below it three "Available Themes" (one of which is the current theme), but no theme browser.

It's all about cut and paste for me. and the secret was originally giving each image a name that had a project designator and a number reflecting the order i wanted it to appear in the sequence. Then when I created the "Prev/Next" links, I copied and pasted and only had to change the number each time. so my code for the image titled "jessica 14" looked like:



PREV

and I only had to go in and change the numbers of the images coming before and after for "PREV" and "NEXT" respectively. After I was finished with that. I went in and re-named each image since the image names show up in my theme. I gave the images names that where more like captions to suit my liking.
Hope I'm making sense... It was a handy trick so I thought I'd share.

b) That's just how it is in the theme you're using. As I said in this thread, there's nothing you can do (other than switching to another theme, which I hope you don't want).

One thing I don't like is that in the gallery attachment pages, all the widgets on the right disappear. Is that just how it is or do you know of something I can do to fix that?

Thanks Tess! the ideas you've linked are great, but I'm afraid, since I have this huge amount of images, that I'll go nuts before finishing this copy & paste thing.

I guess there's no other alternative but changing my theme, which I really don't want to.

Hi all
How can I make so that my images in posts would have a "previous" & "next" option? It seems that between posts & pages it's automaticly there, but I really wish to have this option also between each image so it won't be so annoying to just browse through them.
