hi everyone? i have installed a wordpress on my wamp server and lately i have added a buddypress plug in. the problem occurs when i try to run the buddypress installation wizard but when i reach the fourth step, instead of getting the theme option, am getting a table with an error message on it. i cant quiet understand the message and i have tried everything i can but i cant figure out my way around the problem. i would really appreciate any help. thank you

You are confused. The blog linked to your username is a free hosted WordPress.com blog. There is no BuddyPress here at WordPress.com. BuddyPress is for WordPress.org installs only. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs like the one linked to your username and we cannot install individual plugins or third party themes into them. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

I suggest that if these realities are deal breakers for you then your can hire a web host and set up your own self hosted WordPress.org install from http://wordpress.org/

Once I add Buddypress and Videopress, will users have the ability to post videos to their profiles or will I (the administrator) only have the ability to post videos and share them?

Hey, I'm new to the whole wordpress thing and I'd LOVE to be able to use social grid (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/socialgrid/screenshots/) with buddypress... does anyone know if there is a plugin similar to this that will work on buddypress? Here is what I want: any user who has a profile should have the option to enter their SM links into the xprofile field and have them displayed as icons (facebook, twitter, etc,) on their public profile page. I am new but VERY willing to learn. I just need a little help getting started. :)

Hi, I have a blog http://www.ericeirasurfservice.com using WordPress 3.2.1. with cosmicbuddy theme.
The blog are ready for social network and I already have a few blogs in sub-domains. All the post from this sub-domains are streaming to the main blog (domain) but I have an error "PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function cb_activity_filter_links() in /var/www/vhosts/ericeirasurfservice.com/httpdocs/wp-content/themes/cosmicbuddy/members/single/activity.php on line 29"

It's not a Jetpack issue but it is a wordpress.com issue. The link in My Blogs doesn't resolve to the proper wp-admin directory. I'm ignoring it as I don't need it, but it should work (without needed a redirect on my part). If My Blogs isn't intended to work with self-hosted installations, it shouldn't be there.

In order to use Jetpack, I need a wordpress.com account.

It turns out the reason Jetpack wasn't directing properly had to do with Buddypress and wordpress.com. I disabled BP and it's working now.

However my blog is still listed under My Blogs in Dashboard and I can't edit it. As long as it doesn't cause any more problems it doesn't matter.

How do I fix that, I can't seem to edit it?

remember also that it is unusual to find someone that writes code that is easy to understand.- I used to pick up the pieces after others in industrial manufacturing software - some was written so badly that nobody wanted to even breath on the software let alone upgrade it (made spaghetti that you threw against the wall look well laid out) - it is very difficult to write software that is easy to maintain.

On thing to keep in mind about systems written from scratch is that you end up paying for all the development and improvements, and you have to keep that designer around to make any changes or additions, and if they should flake out or disappear, you are left trying to find someone who is willing to go through all that code and figure out what they did to be able to maintain and update it, so you end up paying big bucks again.

If you can, stick with something open source and in continuous development such as WordPress or perhaps one of the other CMS packages. You are much more likely to be able to find someone to maintain one of them than find a coder who is willing to go through someone else's dirty laundry.

Also ask at WordPress.ORG: http://wordpress.org/support/ they are the keepers of the WordPress software and I have seen some similar questions to yours ask over there from time to time. They have many developers helping in the Forum and what you are looking for is a custom development, but it might be able to be done with the proper Plug-in's.

If you are talking about a large interactive community like facebook then WordPress by itself won't do. One possibility is BuddyPress, which is based on WordPress and already used by a number of sites
