I have been trying to figure out how to install the calendar plug-in to my WordPress site and I just learned that wordpress.com users can't install plug-ins and can only use the default plug-ins selected by the site administrators. Please make this plug-in available to all users by adding it to the list of default plug-ins. From what I understand it can be downloaded from WordPress, so it shouldn't be that difficult for you all to do this. My site is for a group that is working on expanding the local food economy in Berea, KY and it would really help us get the word out about upcoming events if we had a calendar on our site. I don't have time to manage my site, otherwise I would switch to wordpress.org and install the plug-in myself.

I was just passing through the forum and saw your topic. If you're only posting a quote a day, seems like you could use the Calendar in the widgets on you sidebar. The calendar widget displays markings on the days you post. (Different themes mark the date a bit differently, so I've noticed.)

I see on the link above that WordPress has another support page on Embedding a Google Calendar.

FYI here's the support page on the theme I noticed you are using Superhero - it talks about the widgets for your theme.

Hello!

I want to add a calendar to my quote of the day page and be able to link each day to either another post or another page?

Do you think there is a way to add that? I know there is Google calendar, but i am not sure if i can link each date to a post so that way, my followers can just click on any day of the month and just jump to the quote of the day.

Please if you can help me with this or give me an alternate solution I'll be glad.

Thanks

Hi,

I need to highlight dates of upcoming events and show them on the main/home page (and also not in the right column). The next upcoming event should show above upcoming events further in the future (that is, in order).

Instead, as most free themes seem to be meant for blogs, I see that the dates that are (sometimes boldly) highlighted are the dates of when new posts were created.

Perhaps there are multiple ways of doing that... Or at least to be able to decide which post to put where (that is, in which order). Perhaps there is a theme meant for small non-profits that features upcoming events...

I would very much appreciate any help. Thank you for reading so far.

The only themes we can use are those found here > Appearance > Themes
This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

There are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.

If you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

I'm experiencing issues with the calendar on my blog. I'm using a Google Calendar to update a list of events coming up, and although dates and content are correct, the time of each event is different from what I've created.

My current workflow consists on creating an event on Google Calendar, make it public, choosing the timeframe of events, setting the timezone to that of my blog and saving the content. I've tried changing the settings but it doesn't seem to work. Also, if anyone knows how to change the calendar display settings for the blog, that's something that I wanted to do as well.

Have anyone any experience about / how this theme deal with/organize events?
I am considering using this...

Regarding all discussions about widgets, plugins and 3.party SW: you can not include this in your wordpress.com -blog. You have to host your own wordpress site (e.g. http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/wordpress-hosting) to benefit from custom plugins.

I cannot see any events on that calendar through the end of 2012 and truly you do not have to be logged in to your Google account for me to see it.

The calendar you create must be public. Also, if you have several calendars in Google, make sure you have created the events on the one you want to display on your site and make sure those events are public as well.

Yes, I did. The reason you can't see them right now is that I'm logged out of my google account. I'll log back in. Can you check if you can see them then?
