If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html

If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:

1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:

Until recently, I was cropping images easily. Now, after the appearance of the photo editing page changed--about a month ago?, the crop button is grayed out when i want to edit my photos, and I am unable to click and drag the box to crop the picture. (The rotate functions are still available). What do I do? What happened?

Hi there,
I notice you have not posted to your blog since posting this thread here. There was an issue with image cropping in IE9 which has been resolved. Images should once again be editable in IE9 - you can crop, flip, rotate or otherwise make edits. http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-editing/

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, the liked article did not help. I tried again and took screenshots at each stage to show what's happening. I apparently can't do attachments here, so I uploaded the screenshots to my media library and have linked to them in order: here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Any help would be appreciated!

OK--I'm running Chrome Chrome 23.0.1271.95. I also have IE 8, but I usually use Chrome. I've cleared the cache. The third-party cookies are enabled, and I'm not running extensions. I looked at the link you gave, and that's what I'm doing. I still can't edit pictures--when I try to crop or scale, it doesn't indicate a change, and the "Save" button is not enabled. The button looks like it does under the cropping screenshot at the media handling link you gave--the letters are dark, and when I put the cursor over it the hand doesn't pop up indicating I can click it.

An Edit Image button should now be visible on the Add Media window, just above the Delete Permanently link.

I'm trying to edit images that I'm uploading to my media library. When I try to crop or scale them, it's not saving them in the edited form. It either remains as it was, or gives me the little broken icon without displaying the image. I've edited images many, many times on my blog, and this is the first time this has happened. It seems to happen in both Chrome and Internet Explorer. Any suggestions?

All I can do is make a Title, write a caption, Alt text, change alignment, link it to something and change its size. I can't click on the photo to edit it. There is an edit button, but it lets me do nothing. It was working yesterday morning.

If you need to edit an image by cropping, flipping, resizing, or rotating it, you can do that through the Media Library. Here's how to access the image editing tools:

I have Safari 6.01. The thing is that when I press the add media button, I only have the option to resize my pictures and choose through a gallery.

gunner226 - I just tested cropping an image in Safari 5.1.7, and it worked fine. (The bug with cropping described in this thread was only in IE9.)

Could you please let me know what version of Safari you're running, and try updating your browser if an update is available?

Images should once again be editable in IE9 - you can crop, flip, rotate or otherwise make edits. Learn more about image editing.
