@aschell, I don't see "what not" in your category cloud at http://lazyhomesteader.com/ do you still need help with that issue?

@englishlakesblog, in the spectrum theme, you can hide the 'Uncategorized' category with this CSS:

.cat-item-1 {
  display: none;
}

Also, note that you can update the website field on your Users → Personal Profile page to your blog URL and it will make your username link to that one in the forums (fi you'd like).

...The reason I have the category is so I can link to in it other ways, but I want to hide it in the category sidebar.

Thanks, the uncategorized one is one of them that I want to hide, but I also want to hide another which I can also get a named class. Is there a way to do it though CSS? The reason I have the category is so

Delete | Close
There is no exclude by ID option. That's for Pages in the Pages widget.

Also, wanted to add that the category id is already in the Exclude field of the widget, always has been, and it's still showing up.

I have a similar problem/question. My uncategorized category (named "what not") used to be hidden in my category cloud widget, and now it is showing. I can't get it to hide.

As Uncategorized is the default category you need to know that you can replace it with another Category of your choice - no custom design upgrade of CSS editing rquired.

I would like to hide the uncategorized category link in my side bar category widget. I thought this might be possible due to the fact that each category is in its own named class, but since I only have a basic knowledge of CSS I can not figure out how to do it. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction if it is possible? I am using the Spectrum theme. Thanks

That's a good idea and it would help us tremendously, because lots of questions can only be answered effectively if you visit the blog: many answers are theme dependent, or require checking the sourcecode of the page or other things to find what the issue is, etc. So we often waste time when we have to post an URL request instead of an actual reply, or when we give a reply based on the username link and get greeted with "oh no, not that blog, the other one"...
Personally I would add a note next to the option you suggested - something like: "for fast and accurate answers, volunteers generally need the URL of the blog in question". Maybe I'll drop a note to staff, or discuss this with other experienced volunteers first (some staff members don't seem to be very happy when we try to tell them how to run things here). Thanks!

b) No, the URL you provide when starting a thread is only used by the support bot that gives an automated response if the blog isn't a wp.com blog. It's not made public, to respect the choice of the relatively few users who may have reasons not to link to their blog.

Maybe an option box next to the drop-down menu saying "Do you want to include this website address in your post?"?

By the way, searching for various combinations the tags to this post in Support docs and the forum didn't get anything useful. Also, when you start a new topic in the forum, it asks you what blog you are talking about, so I assumed (without checking) that it would publish that. Maybe that would be a useful new feature?

Posts > Categories: hover over category name and check status/progress bar of browser, or click on category name and check address bar of browser.

Please search the Support docs and the forum before asking questions on standard features.
And please paste the URL of your blog when asking questions here. Or, better, make your username link to your blog (Users > Personal Settings: scroll down to Account Details, paste blog URL in the Website field, click Save Changes).

The category cloud widget allows you to exclude categories from the cloud by specifying category ids. But how can I find the id of a category?

Yes, cjwriter is correct. You're going to have to remove that huge image in the sidebar or else resize it because Internet Explorer seems to be overlapping the things so that it fits within the page.

It looks much the same in IE7 as it does in Firefox for me. I'm thinking the problem might be the large image in your sidebar, though. Generally it's not a good idea to have an image as large as that on your blog as it can break your layout. Try taking that widget out to see if that's the problem; if it is, just resize it to a smaller size and you should be fine.

I'm not using the tag cloud widget on my blog, eatingoutinharrisburg.wordpress.com ... but it got really weird on Explorer when I changed the format. Looks great in Firefox. Do i have to dismantle all the widgets???

Since the sidebar widgets are cached, it may take a few hours for it to correct, but in my experience it will correct.

If you put the tag cloud back in now, it may correct itself. It did that for me the other day.

you were right. I have removed the tag cloud and all appears to be well on both firefox and IE. Do you happen to know if there is any way to have both the tag cloud and the category cloud without it screwing up the page? Thank you very much for your help

Please try this. Remove the tag cloud widget and save changes. Refresh and then look at your blog again.

The reason I'm suggesting this is because your blog does not look fine in firefox 2.0.0.8. The tag widget tags have overflowed the blog lay out on the right hand side into the background. Looking at your blog in IE& I now see the tag cloud is overflowing the layout too exactly like I noted above.

looks fine on firefox, when viewed on explorer the widgets all hang below the last post. Any idea how I can get them up beside the current post where they belong?
