Yes, it turned out that it was working but even if I refreshed the web page or closed it and went in again it didn't register the changes. What I had to do was go to a different post other than the home post and it would register the changes on all the pages (strange).

You beat me to it before I managed to say that I'd resolved it but I didn't know about the category and tag duplicate problem so thanks for pointing it out to me. I have some duplicates so I think that could have added to another of my problems earlier.

Thanks!

I guess you resolved this, as I'm seeing a top menu that includes the categories Italy, Cuba etc.

A note on categories and tags: they are the same pool of data, so there's absolutely no point using the same word or phrase as both a category and a tag, plus you'll run into technical problems when you do that.

Hi, I've been diligently creating categories for my posts as I put them up, using the duotone theme, but the only way viewers have been able to find posts under, for example, the 'Italy' category, is through the search box.

I have just discovered, from looking at someone else's blog using this theme, that I can place a categories menu at the top or side bar. So, I've added the categories widget to my blog, saved it and checked the site. Nothing has changed. I've even tried to create a custom menu for categories to see if that makes any difference, but still I am not seeing anything come up on my blog. Any ideas why it isn't working?

Thanks for any input!

It might be a long shot but using the more tag will let you display a snippet of content and users would need to click through to get to the full post:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/

It does apply both to archives pages as well as the home page, so I'm not sure if it's a solution that will work for you.

Thanks, I think that means no :)
Do you know if it is possible to pay the theme designer to change it? I really like the theme but may have to go back to the one I used before as it made locating old posts so much easier.

I don't help with CSS but I believe this may apply:

Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

Hi,
I just changed my theme to iTheme2 which is great, but so far there is only one thing I don't like and would like to change, but I have zero CSS skills and so before I upgrade I want to ask if the following change can be made...

When archives or categories are clicked the default design setting opens up all the posts in full. My old theme (Vigilante) opened a page with a list of posts titles in the archive or category selected. I much prefer this as it means my readers can scroll through titles and find what they are looking for quickly. Can I make iTheme2 do the same?

If the answer is yes, is it a simple change that someone can talk me through? And if it is difficult is there a service where I can pay someone to do it for me?

Cheers

Sarah

If you choose to block search engines, then only your own posts will appear when clicking below your posts.

Another thing to notice about categories and tags in general:
In a private blog, you can click on a tag or category in both sidebar widgets and below your posts (above in some themes), and you will see a list of posts in that category.
Once the blog goes public, though the category and tag links will go to global tags:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/

Global tags will work the same way as with a if you choose (under privacy settings)
I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors

So unless you choose the option of hiding from search engines, be sure to have widgets so readers will find posts on your own blog.

Hey all, I have searched the forums and support pages and can't find an answer to this question. My blog/website is not live yet as I am still working on it.

I am using Vigilance theme and have posted quite a number of old posts from another location. When I click on either a category, tag or archive month it gives me a list of posts. When I then click on a post it only gives me one. I would like for it to either open a page with the latest post followed by the older ones when I click on category/tag/archive or at least give me more than one post when I select from a list of posts. The first is preferable. I notice that some themes seem to work this way. Is it just because I am using Vigilance or do I need to set it up some way that I can't seem to see?

Thanks in advance.
