Hello,

timethief thank you very much for your tips. However I still have a question on this topic. Is it possible to set an "Archive category" page as the front page? It seems to me that at WordPress.com we just have 2 options for the front page: 1) the automatic all-post-in-the-blog page; 2) a static-page.

I would appreciate a feature like setting a category name as "Homepage" and make just the posts published under this category to appear when you arrive to antoniocarrilho.wordpress.com, which is a Blog I mantain for a friend. Is there anyway to make this?

Notice that this blog I'm talking about is from a professional musician. The information about concerts and shows is quite random and unorganized and so the front page may become a little bit silly with posts of videos, announcements, reminders, etc... I would appreciate to have some domain on the posts appearing in the front page. This would be simply fixed by assining a category to those posts and calling that category to show up exclusively on the front-page. Is this feasible?

Thanks a lot!

This is the URL for a statics Page ie. not a category page http://mrdrawerguy.wordpress.com/how-i-draw/
This is the URL for a Category page
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/category/better-blogging/
Look at the two closely to see the difference.

You do not have any category pages in your cusom menu. You have Pages that will not automatically update with new content when you publish. Please read this http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and understand those static pages will never update with posts because they are not dynamic Categories pages.

You need to delete the Pages, create Categories for those labels on them (Artwork, How I Draw), and assign the Categories to your posts.

There is only one page that we can post to in any blog and we cannot prevent any posts we publish from appearing on that one page. By default it's the front page of the blog that all posts appear on. We organize posts by assigning Categories to them and when we publish the software automatically displays the posts on dynamic Categories pages. We crate a custom menu and add the Categories pages to it as menu items.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-category-pages-to-your-menu

Here’s a link to a custom menu walk-through > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/11/wordpress-com-custom-menu-walk-through/

I am regularly tweeting and doing Facebook post about the products I represent. Looking to move to the next level and write full posts about them. For instance 1 product is 3-Form. If you click on the 3-Form page, I would like you to see relevant information, such as what it is made of, the fact it is made in the usa, technical support phone number etc. And then below or to the side of that be able to see blog posts I have done about their products, reviews, etc. So if I do a post and categorize the post as 3-Form it will show up on that page for my users to see as well as in the dated archives.

I said "front page" and if anyone wishes to nit pick at that the correct words would have been "on the home page" because some people change the default front page to a static home page, but you have not done that.

Hi - I have read it is unwise to repost old posts. I have also read about sticky posts. Is there a way to sticky post an old post on a category page ONLY and not on the home page? If I do repost an old post, will it have the same url? (haven't actually delved into reposting as read search engines don't like it). Many thanks

You do not create category pages. They are sutomatically created by the software when you publish a post with a category assigned to it. This is the format of a category url http://fashionmarketingandvenice.wordpress.com/category/NAME_OF_CATEGORY
So your create a cusom menu and you then add the category URL to it.
More here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/
