Ok, this is not intuitive at all. If you add someone as a follower and would like to upgrade them to an editor and maybe some other type of user. You need to send another invitation (unlike changing an editor to administrator which you can just edit) and they will automatically be changed to an editor in the 'all users' list. This happens if they have accepted the invitation or not. Why not let the administrator just change their role without the additional email? Now if the user has not accepted or even looked at the first email they will get a second email.

She'll need to have a WordPress.com account to be added as an Author.

You'll have to re-invite her from Users -> Invite New in your blog's Dashboard.

Please note that Followers are email subscribers, which is why it's an option.

Follower does have a wp.com account. She entered her email address and invited herself while I was signed in as admin, but she neglected to change the default setting to Author. This is a mistake I too have made in the past.

There should not be a Follower option in Invite Users, let alone as default, if it is not going to show up in All Users, where the role can be changed.

Invite New Users defaults to a Follower role, yet All Users does not show the Followers and there seems to be no way to change a Follower to an actual User.

How can this defect in the UI be entered into the bug database?
