So I logged out to see if I knew the password, and I do not. I also tried to get the password reset and sent to me, and it's certainly not my email that it is going to.

So I changed "LaurenOrsini" to "LaurenOrsini2" in order to free up the former. However, whenever I try to change my name to that, it says, "This username already exists!"

It's an unusual name and I doubt anybody took it in the short time I've left it open. What's going on?

when and how long does it take to free up the name?

There is no better answer that a factual answer and that's what you have. It's not going to change. Deleted blog names ie. URLs are not ever recycled here. I've been here over 6 years and there are no exceptions.
