I know how to get to and use my blog http://www.jokeandsnarkbar.com.
But I made a little blog (novelexcerpts.wordpress.com) to print a novel excerpt that could be accessed from twitter. After much searching I found it again, but there is nothing listed on the admin page that can be edited or accessed. It looks like nothing was ever entered. There is the page with the excerpt, which I finally found by going outside and using the twitter link. All your suggestions are too complicated and don't seem to have anything to do with what I needed. So for my additional blog, I just went to another site on Webs.com and made something, repeating what I had done on WordPress and adding a little more text. I wanted something I could do quickly and use. I still don't know how to get my admin page on wordpress.com to synch with my text page. Designing my own menu. What for?

Every WordPress.com username account is also a gravatar account and there is only one gravatar for each username account.

One your own blog be sure you have selected your display preferences for gravatars and worked through all options here > Settings > Discussion from "Avatar Display __ Show Avatars " all the way to the end of the page and then click "save changes".

Also note that "custom background" does not necessarily mean the image or color behind the text on posts and pages can be changed. In most cases it just means the edges.

Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
browse themes until you find one you like ie. Andreas and click "activate"
or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the "activate" link when it appears

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

I changed my theme, I used your live preview, I lost widgets and background image does not show. I have a lot of problems. I had a beautiful theme before and now it is ruined I would like to come back to it. My original theme was Andreas, I changed it to Shaan but was not able to save background image. Then I saved the blog to Super hero and I am not able to save background image either. I am very upset. I had my original blog for 6 years and it was great now I have a mess.

If you are referring to changing themes you can do that very easily.

Let's be clear about this. Username accounts do not magically chnage. When we register a username account and provide an email address it becomes our unique identifier. Every blog we register while logged into WordPress.com under that username account is owned by that same username account.

We can change usernames but if we do that there is a clear warning stated at the very outset that this cannot be reversed.

Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

You registered the ffynnonhell username account but you did not register the matching blog

ffynnonhell.wordpress.com doesn’t exist

Which image do you mean? Where is it?

Figured it out. Thanks! While I have your attention, my gravatar pic doesn't seem to want to stay activated? Also, I've tried to change all my notifications to one email but some still go to my old email address that I'm phasing out of my life? Am I missing something? I appreciate all the tips....

There are several layouts you can choose from. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/adventure-journal/
If you choose to have a Full Width Template then there is no sidebar for widgets.

Thanks for getting back to me. My problem is that the widgets don't appear on my blog page when someone logs onto my blog to read content. Nothing on the sidebar to see, even though in the Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets section the widgets are listed as being visible. If you go to my blog page you should be able to see a search bar, blogs I follow, archives etc...

Why won't my widgets show up? I've recently changed my blogs theme and widgets that are still listed on my dashboards appearance section just aren't there. I've tried removing them and replacing them but nothing works. The theme says its has a spot for widgets, as most of them do. please help!

I suggest that you use a responsive width theme. Responsive width means the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading. Each theme has different styling for blockquotes, etc. but aside from that you ought to have no issues. I strongly suggest all bloggers register a test blog and make it private for this kind of use. You can even make it into a mirror blog of the main one so you know in advance exactly what to expect. Oh...and when we are talking about reformatting...I just want to make sure we are on the same page.

My concern is that my posts, as I have formatted them (italics, block quotes, bold words, hyper links, photos added to posts, etc.) will be removed or messed up when I switch themes. However, other may be referring to other formatting issues...

So, are we talking about the same formatting issues or will the posts (as I have created them) potentially stay the same?

Is there a way to guess how wide a theme is by looking at it? I mean, do I look at the width of the blog post column? Or something else?

I guess I dont know exactly what you mean when you say "width of the blog." What part exactly are you referring too?

I'm afraid there is no automated way to search this, and no up to date list as far as I'm aware. As long as you change to a theme that is at least as wide or wider, you'll minimize reformatting issues.

You will lose some of it, since formatting is dependent on width. To minimize it, change to a theme with the same width.

Here is what I am thinking....I currently have theme "x."

However, I think theme "y" is a pretty cool theme as well.

IF I switch to Y, do I have to reformat my posts that I have already posted? Will block quotes, italics, etc. remain as I originally input them?

Also, if after a week or so, I decide that I do, in fact, like theme "X" best and I decide to switch back....will my posts need to be reformatted (again) after I switch back to theme "x"..?

Or will my posts remain formatted as I have already done, regardless of which theme I change too (and regardless if I change back)!?

Okay, so I am thinking about changing my blogs theme.

However, what can I expect when this happens?? After changing the theme, will I have to re-format every blog post I have ever written on this particular blog?

I dont want to change the theme until I know how much work is involved. I dont want to spend a lot of time going back and formatting old posts all over again.
