Hi Everyone,

I would like to add one or two chapters of my book on my blog. I would like it to look something like:

Read a Sample: Chapter 1|Chapter 2

I want the "Chapter 1" and "Chapter 2" to be links to the actual chapters, but I have no idea how to do that. Can someone please give me advice on this?

Thanks!

@irishocaruso

Please be aware that there are different flavors of WordPress. Lots of information one finds online or hears about will be related to wp.ORG rather than to wp.COM.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You can use categories to organize your posts, as you have done.

As far as I know there is no way to have pictures automatically next to post titles or in custom menus on wp.com.
If you want to list your posts in order (like chapters) then you could use a custom menu widget in your sidebar with links to posts in the order you would like them to be read.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/
(for that matter you could put a custom menu in your top navigation)
more detail about custom menus:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

If you want pictures with the links to posts you will have to venture into a bit of html/text editing. If you are interested in that we can help.

Unfortunately he left town and I am having a hard time following up for instructions. Another blogger uses some kind of an app across the top under the masthead that features the title of the folder or chapter and a small photograph teaser.

How do I get into this? Am I using the wrong terminology??

Thank you, Takashi. That was very helpful. Visiting each of those sites helped me see some of the possibilities offered by Chapters -- better than the demo did. They also gave me ideas of what I do and don't want.

Now to get brave, jump in and try to figure out *how* to do it. A brain injury took away my "geek-ness" abilities. So it seems confusing and scary. I'm not sure which I'm sposed to do first ... buy the theme or open/start the blog first. (I already bought the domain name.)

Again, thank you much.

I have just begun a blog called my 1000 blessings!
Obviously. .when all is said and done. . I'd like to have a 1000 posts, though short.
I was investigating if one could post these chronologically from 1 - 1000
I was looking (and liked) the Chapters theme. . .but could I really put a 1000 tabs across the top ?
Or can I group posts in groups of 10 and put a chapter marker at the top ?
I can't seem to find much info on this theme?
Anyone know of have ideas ?

I'm seriously considering using the Chapters theme to start my new blog. Most of the themes I've seen on the WordPress Browse Themes site offer links to blogs that use each theme. But on the Chapters showcase page it says that 147 blogs use it, but doesn't give any links. So other than the example used in the demo, there are no others I can look at. I really want to see how others are using this theme before I spend my $$.

I have all sorts of questions about Chapters, specific to what I want to do with it -- post each chapter of my book, w/out dates. I don't want it to be a calendar sensitive site. My project is huge and complicated and I need something that will help me bring together the myriads of parts into a structured whole. Chapters *looks* like it might do that. When I'm done -- or perhaps when I have a certain portion -- I'll go public with it. But before I ask those more specific questions, I need to see how others are using it.

Thank you in advance to anyone who might be able to help me w/ this.

A blog is, essentially, a reverse chronological publishing tool. Posts are entries that display in reverse chronological order on your blog’s front page. Posts are included in category lists, archives, and feeds. Posts are always associated with a date, which is included in the URL.
posts

Pages are static ans sit outside the blogs structure. They are a good way to publish information that doesn’t change much. Pages appear in the Pages widget and in tabs/links across the top of some themes. Pages are not associated with a date/time like posts, nor can you tag or categorize a page.
pages
posts vs pages

I have a complete block on the subject of Posts and Pages (and feel somewhat stupid as a result!)
I have begun a blog for the purpose of promoting my property that I am selling. I want to tell the story about this property in a sequence of posts that run one after the other (hopefully with the oldest first) as in Capter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3 etc. so that a reader can just start at the top and read down. Each "chapter" is a blurb on some subject and gets written over time - a book in process.
Do I:
a) create a sequence of posts and hope that WordPress knows how to join them all togther in a sequential read as I write them or
b) just keep adding to a "chapter" onto the the post or
c) set up each chapter as a page (its static information) so that WordPress will display the pages (chapters) in sequence.
Hope that makes sense to someone!

Heya-
I've been trying to create a index page and organize the the articles I've written into chapters. Whenever I've tried to do the instructions on this page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/
everything gets jumbled up and I have to spend the next hour putting everything back where it belongs. I follow these instructions to the letter so I'm not sure what I'm missing.
The only thing I've done is to have a blog {page} not a post and add my blogs to the page. The post page, named "home" just has a "Welcome" message on it and I don't alter it in any way.
Whenever I try these instructions, I get the suggested "index" page and the "chapters" page, both in the header/nav bar. I've seen the chapters nested on others' sites and would like to do that.
Thank you
